Some smart stuff in Knox County's plan though... in my opinion.

A Community Strategy for Phased Reopening

quote:

An Increase in Cases is Anticipated Due to Initial Low Case Counts
Through the joint effort of citizens in “flattening the curve,” the number of active COVID-19 cases has stayed far below the capacity of the health care system. This has provided the region with time to increase supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE), hospital surge capacity, testing capacity and the ability to surge contact tracing should it be needed and appropriate. As we locally advance through the phases, we anticipate an increase in active cases at each phase due to the low number of initial active cases. The focus of the benchmarks outlined in this document is on assessing the local ability to manage an increase in cases while preventing the unobstructed growth of transmission. Our low initial active case counts will likely mean we will not obtain a downward trend throughout the phases of the reopening process. Our community demonstrated success in flattening the curve before it truly started. Due to this initial success, future phases will result in increased numbers of active case counts. This alone is not a reason to revert to a previous phase or not advance to the next phase.

New Cases Versus Cumulative Cases
As we shift into a long-term response strategy, it is important to discuss a change in how cases will be communicated and emphasized. At the beginning of a pandemic, cumulative cases and new cases are similar numbers because of the short timeframe that has passed. As time goes on, however, cumulative
cases begin to misrepresent the current transmission in the community. The number of cumulative cases always gets bigger. The number of new cases provides a better snapshot of what is happening in a community at any given time. Cumulative cases will still be available on the website, but new cases will now be emphasized over cumulative counts to provide a more accurate representation of the case data.

I just know of a few ER nurses that have had their hours cut

That would make sense... COVID patients, a lot of them aren't entering the hospital via the ER process, and ER use is down because when people stay at home, they are safer (fewer broken bones, etc)

Also... at some point, I would think finances are an issue. I know Medicare isn't paying anything worth a crap for Covid issues, and the vast majority of Covid hospitalizations are medicare.

I've heard that's happening in several departments, but it's the ones where the medical staff isn't being used for COVID issues.

I would imagine that would reverse itself once stuff opens back up, though.

I work at a large hospital. Everyone not working with covid-19 patients has been required to take 8 hours of leave per week. This is supposed to be through the end of May, but we'll see how long it lasts once things open back up. We might still see significantly reduced traffic.

Stay at home extended until 05/15/20 as we are not in phase 1 yet. Will re-evaluate in the coming weeks

That's what I think too. The frickers has control over our lives now and he's not going to turn that power back over very easily.

JBE is disappointing. I’ve wondered a lot lately how Rispone would have handled this.

Does Edwards have the power over the Mayor of New Orleans when it comes to ending the stay at home? I know LaToya extended the city's until the 15th but if Edwards ends it on the 1st which one is in effect? Does she outrule him within her City? I was told over the weekend she actually has the power over him but can't find anything one way or the other.

Statewide orders trump local ones.

Beautiful

Too bad the media or any of the Facebook Karen’s will read this.

Media is going to celebrate every new case and tell every sob story imaginable from the states that reopen

Executive orders issued by the Governor trumps any thing on the parish level. If he extends the order then she cannot overrule that. However, if there is no statewide order then she can still put one into place for NO. Again, she can’t ignore his order

We’re doing Phase 1 starting Friday.
JBE feels the people are at the breaking point and will not extend the stay at home order but will threaten it.

If JBE was given truth serum, he would say, “our unemployment was dead last in the nation and our economy was stagnant. Why in the world would we want to open up? Let’s pray the federal government bails us out”

I would love to see that happen, but I doubt it. Everything points to another 2 weeks. Phase 1 will start on 05/15 and the next 2 weeks will be spent establishing an actual plan.
