Supposedly some children are born with a "unidentifiable" part down there. The doctor supposedly then makes the choice to create a vagina or a penis out of the "organ". Therefore the "assigned" comes in to play

I consider myself to be an educated, fairly well-adjusted and pretty open-minded guy. I abhor people who are bigoted, ignorant, and small-minded. I’m 100% in favor of equal rights for gay people and am proud to call a number of them my friends. I don’t believe that homosexuality is a choice, nor is it a form of mental illness. That said, I have to admit that I’ve never been able to really wrap my head around the concept of transsexualism. I don’t believe you are “assigned” a gender. You are born with one. The idea that someone can be born into a body of the wrong sex is utterly confusing to me. Essentially Jazz was born with the body of a male but the “soul” of a female.
