I am continually disappointed that NOLA.com continues to allow that a-hole to publish. Not because his pieces are one sided and badly written but because he is an outright racist piece of shite that paints EVERYTHING with the "racist" brush. I have yet to see ONE article by him that isn't about the bad white man screwing over the innocent colored folk. Sickening.

He wrote a column a few years after Katrina about his old neighborhood in Gentilly. He interviewed an elderly black couple who were his ex-next door neighbors. They were going through the same problems everyone was. The old couple said there was never any question that they would rebuild (the husband was a carpenter or a contractor), but hardly any of the old neighbors had come back. (Including Jarvis, who took his LRA money and went to higher ground.)

However, after years of sitting vacant and ungutted, some had recently been purchased and renovated. But there was bad news ... WHITE people were gentrifying the neighborhood! The old people wished their old neighbors were back, but were happy the neighborhood was coming back to life. Jarvis was pissed Whitey was moving in. After he himself had moved out ASAP.

The guy is an a-hole.

Things Jarvis DeBerry ISN'T butthurt over:

3. Interior doorknobs

Seriously try to think of any other subject that the man could not manipulate to see as an affront.

Ice cream? Nope, because vanilla gets more prominent freezer placement than chocolate, and even when people buy the allegedly "integrated" Neopolitan they still dig the flavors out separately. Racist.

Clouds? Nope, because everybody describes the white ones as fluffy and innocuous, and blames the dark ones for ruined social events and catastrophic damage. Racist.

Dandelions? Nope, they're pale and an invasive species, just like white people. Racist.

What I find most frustrating is that I don't always even disagree with him in principle. He's capable of making some genuinely thought-provoking points if he chooses to, but instead of using that to promote unity, he buries any sentence remotely worthy of reading in paragraph after paragraph of self-righteous indignation and insults. That's not the approach of a guy who's interested in educating or opening a dialogue; that's a guy who gets off on throwing employer-sanctioned tantrums. He's a glorified shite-stirrer who has far more in common with Rush Limbaugh than MLK, whether he wants to admit that or not.

But then that's sorta the point. If he stopped behaving like a petty a-hole with a persecution complex, then he stops raking in those clicks and shares.
