"The Americans don't do jungle fighting.

They flatten the jungle and fight you in the crater."

Can you imagine a more beautiful compliment?

Listening to Dan Carlin’s “Supernova in the East” right now for the second time.
The Japanese really respected the US Marines. There were propaganda rumors such as they were all former inmates of insane asylums and/or you couldn’t become a marine until you killed a close family member.

My Uncle was a life long Marine Sargent.

And I will agree with that last statement.

Had an Uncle who lied about his age going to Parris Island and then he went to the Pacific. He was a different bird. He loved it, although he didnt talk it. Went on to Korea too. When Vietnam came, my Aunt told him "IF you come back, I won't be here". So, he didn't go to Vietnam, but he really wanted too. Back then, they didn't know about PTSD. He nearly killed my Aunt choking her in the bed, thinking she was a Japanese. She grapped the phone and hit him in the side of the head jarring him out of it. He went somewhere to get treatment for awhile. I remember seeing several .357s around the house in various drawers. When I asked him if they were loaded, he said "absolutely, an unloaded gun doesn't do you any good. But if I see you touch one, I'll tear your little a$$ up." That's all it took. I NEVER touched one his guns. He was a great man. He worked as a Sherriff, then sold hardware as a living. I miss that generation. They did and saw things I'm not so sure I would've wanted to go through or see. He loved the Marines and served 21 years. I grew believing if you weren't a Marine, you weren't fully American. He also joked, "the Marines landed in the Virgin Islands, and they had to change the name".

Screw cave fighting when you have the ammo to open up the caves and use flamethrowers to toast those worms to a golden brown.

Grandfather was there fighting the Japanese on Guadalcanal, Tinian, Saipan and Okinawa. The only time he talked about it was when he discussed finding a cache of “hooch” in one of those caves with his marine buddies. My uncle asked “well what did you do with it?” My grandfather replied “what the hell did you think we did, we drank all of it.”

They just don’t make them anymore like that anymore.

I always felt like I could excel in the marines and thought about joining. However I will not join to fight a pointless war. Now when shite hits the fan I will be in there to fight for baws like y’all.

That's not a Marine. That's a freak who gets to wear a Navy uniform and call itself an Admiral but doesn't get anywhere near the operational military Thank God. I got to work with five young Marines the last few weeks and I can attest that they are carrying the legacy on.

A friend of mine was Forward Artillery Observer at Iwo Jima.

Mr Stanwood Duval . Sr. Houma, Louisiana. That’s him with the binoculars at the foot of the airfield. He loved calling in fire from the battleships onto the Jap positions. He told me many stories and I don’t think he held back much. Brutal, brutal fighting. He made five landings in the Pacific.

"Sir, we have a case of Beriberi in the camp. What should we do?"

"Give it to the Marines. They'll drink anything."

Had an uncle who was a life long Marine who fought on every island that the Corp fought in the Pacific. Wounded on Guadacanal, he rehabbed & went back on active duty after being told he needed to go home, his wounds were that bad. Hated the Japanese till the day he died at age 87, to the extent he never bought anything made in Japan & wouldn't let any family member buy Japanese, either. Cousin told me that 15 years after the war & he finally retired from the Corp, they went to a family friend's house for a family bar bq. His dad walked into the den, saw a Japanese TV, grabbed a lamp & threw it through the tv screen. They left & as far as he knew, never went back.

Well, that's why our government developed HAARP! We flooded their asses out of them underground bunkers with massive torrential rains created by HAARP.

My kids's great grandpa (my ex-wife's grandpa) told me a story about when he was on a air craft carrier during world war II he was on the flight deck and the Japs were attacking and he happened to look up and a Japanese Kamikazee plane exploded about 50 yards in front of him there was fire everywhere and he looked down and saw an ear from the pilot. He picked it up and put it in his pocket. No shite

I didn't believe him at first and kind of chuckled he said follow me I went out to his backyard shop with him and out he pulled a jar of formaldehyde with a damn ear in it. Never forgot that he was a good old dude and died when he was 92 years old. The greatest generation for sure.

In actuality you just had to finish your first 64 pack of crayons with the paper still on.
