I think its not just Japanese people.
This is a quick Gemini response.
Yes, people are generally having less sex today compared to previous decades, with significant declines noted across various age groups, particularly among younger adults. Factors such as changing social dynamics, economic pressures, and increased online interactions contribute to this trend.
It goes into detail about social changes, economic pressures, etc which makes sense.
Anyone coming up in the late 90s and early 2000 or before you probably went out with "your boys" and yall went where the girls were. And even the non so social friend would be convinced to go out every once in awhile. While I know people still go out an all, but for a lot of these kids today its just not their thing. They are staying home and playing video games with their head pieces on talking to a group of people playing the game with them.
It seemed like video games used to be something you did when you were sick, had to stay in and after taking meds and feeling a little better.. With nothing else going on, you played video games. Its actually kind of sad. What are these kids going to do when they are in their late 40s, 50-60s.. "When I was in college, we had some wild nights playing call of duty. This one night your uncle Brayton....."

They did ask them, but what are you going to do with, “I just don’t want to”? That doesn’t explain it. Why don’t they want to?

All part of the depopulation plan.

They’ll simply have their country with fewer people in it. But it’ll still be Japan.
That’s a pipedream. Those fewer people are going to produce a much smaller GDP. As it shrinks, a higher percentage of that GDP will go to repairing infrastructure. That will leave less for funding a military, and eventually, some country like China or India will come waltzing in and take over. Maybe enslave the indigenous Japanese people who are left.

The first thing a Japanese man with a hard on hits when he runs into wall is his nose.

Trump is pulling the plug on freeloader nations dickriding the American taxpayer. Plus, America isn’t having enough children either. Notice all of the immigrants. They are not here because someone wants to replace us; they are here because we are not replacing ourselves.

You don’t publish half-arse research when the answer to your question is just, "Huh, that's weird." Sometimes social science researchers (and peer reviewers and journal editors) are morons.

People in Japan, and Tokyo in particular, work ridiculous amounts.
People say this but most countries take tons more Holidays and vacation time than the U.S. Tokyo maybe, maybe outworks NYC but they don’t on avg outwork Americans.
They may work long days but then have 3, 3 days weekends a month. Sort of thing.
