The Japanese are such broken people. 
They're too reserved to get it on with each other so they develop weird fetishes. Now the birth rate is plunging, and they are headed for a major labor shortage crisis.
But they're too racist to bring in enough foreign workers that they will need to support the aging population. They're doomed.

They’ll either find a solution in tech or slow down and find a new paradigm that arises with a significantly decreased, homogenous population.
They are island people. It isn’t new.
