name Richard Jewell comes to mind. You can see any number of posts on this thread expressing distrust of federal law enforcement. It's not so hard to imagine not wanting to talk to them. People here say it all the time.
Most of that is personal opinion/experience, not a directive from and organization that they belong to along with someone who did a terrorism

You know absolutely dick about history

What pieces of shite to phrase it like that. As if it isn’t one.

If he didn't post his videos, and they were just on his phone for the FBI to find, then all this algorithm stuff is just hot air. Right?
Unless he posted his exact plans, meaning going to Bourbon Street to mow down pedestrians, then what can the algorithm do other than reveal this guy is a sympathizer who needs to be dealt with?

And during those 60 years, people were more free than they are now. And you want the screws tightened even more.

Sure, I don’t trust them. But if I attended the same church as someone who conducted a terrorist attack on a US city, I would definitely talk to them about anything I knew concerning that person.
I would also absolutely condemn the frick out of my pastor for emailing our congregation telling us not to talk to them.

Hours if not a full day before the attack. If Cannibal can’t stop this shite then the patriot act should not be renewed at all. They didn’t stop the January 6th attack either so I am getting very dubious of why they really need access to all our texts phone calls and emails.
Maybe they do just have too much information due to this shite
Maybe they do just have too much information due to this shite

Great point. One minute this place labels folks bootlickers who will do whatever daddy government wants, the next minute they want you to comply or die.

What, exactly, do you want to be done?

It sounds like he wants the US to murder everyone who doesn’t live by our values, which sounds a lot like terrorism

I'm sure we (the general public) don't know what all has been stopped due to these acts. I'm not necessarily sure we need to be privy to this information, or some people would be afraid to leave their own homes.

I think this is also the case

frick that. I want to know everything. If the government can have that much intrusion into private citizens lives, they damn well should have to prove it to be valuable

Also looks like they lost all the probable co-conspirators on this so be prepared for them to claim is was completely another “lone wolf” attack as was the explosion in the Tesla truck at the Trump hotel in Vegas and all is good except they need us to concede a few liberties to them to protect us.

Both likely very true.
I also think there may be an allocation of resources to low end threats like Jan 6 grandmas that would be better served working on things like this.

That’s was exactly the point for not doing this, but they said that they had powerful algorithms and AI that would filter out all the non terrorist related shite.
This should have been caught 15 minutes after it was posted max, then they could have quickly found and tracked the truck etc. It’s way more an intelligence failure than a local police failure. We are also supposed to be monitoring all ISIS activities.
Most likely explanation, they are short handed at NSA etc due to the holidays.
So a couple of things:
1. The only reports I’ve seen are that he recorded videos during his drive. I have not seen it reported that he posted those videos to social media. I took it to mean they found videos on his phone. Maybe I’m missing something though. (ETA: I see a report now saying he posted stuff to social media.)
2. For the sake of argument, let’s say he did post them to social media. The type of response you’re suggesting would require:
- that his accounts are already being monitored
- that the government has AI tools sufficient to immediately scrape that video content from his social media, convert speech in the video to text, understand the intent of the words, and flag it for follow up
- that the government then has the resources to immediately locate this guy in real time (using automated tools with no warrants) and deploy resources to his location on New Year’s Eve
- locating him would either require them to track his cell phone’s physical location without a warrant or somehow ascertain automatically that he was in a rental truck and get the rental’s license plate # without a warrant
- that the FBI is then able to capture and arrest him based on all of this information.. with no warrant, on a holiday
If you think the federal government can do all of that within 15 minutes of a sketchy video being posted to Twitter/FB, you have a lot more faith in them than I do. I believe that the NSA computers are monitoring everything. But I question their ability to isolate truly “meaningful” events quickly, the speed at which that information gets shared within the government, and the FBI’s ability to act on that information (particularly when it’s a US citizen).

From my understanding he was an E6 and did two contracts on active with one deployment. Most of the time he was a nobody but there have been reports of honorable discharge with possibility of a few work place issues at the end of his active time, possibly due to his religion. He then applied for the reserves and was denied - again none of this is confirmed.
He served at least 3 years in the reserves up until 2020. Was in the NY Post article linked about 12 pages back.

Fair or not, lawyering up makes you look like you have information to hide. No one from the mosque has been charged with or even been connected with any crime. The crime scene was 6 hours away from the mosque. What possible self-incrimination could take place? Releasing a message to not talk to police is suspect.

There is always a flavor of the day in everything, so I am sure they have been spending more resources on alt right groups than Islamic groups last few years.
And we can’t ever know what we don’t know but like Ronald Regan used to say, the The scariest phrase in America is “I’m from the government here to help you. “ To trust them to tell the truth is a serious error in judgment.

And that was based upon what, exactly? How has the “alt right” proven to be the biggest threat to the country in the last 4 years? Now that the truth has come out about what really happened 1/6, that’s obviously a lie and there were only a handful of agitators, some of whom identified as agents.
The biggest threat has always been from those who want to attack America for what it stands for and that isn’t some 50 year old woman who attended a rally and likely never stepped foot into the building.
