I think Carville's point is being made in this thread...whether you agree with his politics or not, he is a shrewd operator
now that being said, in interests of full disclosure, where I stand on the monuments issue in NOLA:
The Liberty Monument, how many of you have ever seen it or read what's on it? I think it needs to go.
Jeff Davis statue, don't have a lot of energy one way or another, but It could find a good home at Beauvoir...
Lee Circle, I'm not a Lee fan by any means, but the logistical nightmare of moving the statue as well as the emotions that will be aroused...leave it be
Beauregard, HE NEEDS TO STAY, he's from New Orleans and came back after the war and did a bunch of good stuff for the city...
on the priority list of what needs to be done in NOLA....this is so far down the list it's not funny...

Can't tell if serious, but Maryland had slaves past the start of the civil war.
They actually almost seceeded with Virginia.

Read some of the memorial plaques at the feet of the oaks around the Union and say that. Just stfu.

Sherman stepped in and spared LSU from destruction during the union's push up the Mississippi.
And that justified the remainder of burned property, raped women, and looted and pillaged civilians fields and homes?

POS. Sherman owned slaves, continued to own slaves during the war, and continued to own slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation. While he was a Union general.

Why does it have to be named after anyone? People think everything needs to be named after someone these days. It's called the Parade Grounds. I'm good with that.

Are you saying that's not what people call it? That's all I've ever heard people call it.

it's a military thing....the entire area is where the Corps of Cadets would assemble for military parades...it is one ground

LSU has a tiny plaque devoted to Sherman on campus. There's a garbage can in front of it. I'm okay with that.
I'd rather not name the Parade Grounds at all.

In your experience was Sherman a harsh instructor?
