I remember when this first happened (I fly into Jackson often); I heard several arguments form locals who said in that situation, the proper thing to do is let someone steal your car and 1)call the police, and/or 2)file an insurance claim.
Basically they were saying what the guy did was illegal vigilante justice. What do you think?

quote:Um, this would basically mean he would have to leave the entire city of Jackson. I understand where you're coming from, but that city has fallen very hard very fast. People I know who choose to remain do so out of a sense of loyalty to a once great city, as well as a desire not to cower to people like this who are trying to take over their city.
who choose to live around people like this and then have something bad happen to them
We can't just keep running away from stuff like this, some of us have to stay and fight or we'll be moving further out every 20 years.

This mindset baffles me. People are basically capitulating to the thugs.

The problem is when something like this happens, look who's opposing you: minority police, minority DAs, and minority jury pool. Unfortunately, not the best climate to defend yourself.

I know a guy who spent $500,000 on lawyers for a divorce.
I've seen one go into the 2 million dollar area. We know because the wife claimed waste. Woof.

$500,000? 2 million?
I'd hire a hit man to kill the bitch. Would have to be cheaper.

Good luck getting a quick bond hearing in Jackson. He might have had one last week but then the entire city was shut down due to the ice storm

I wonder when he pulled. I've always been under the assumption you do not pull unless someone's life is at stake. Personally, I'd just take pictures of the guy stealing the car and call the cops.

He wasn't in his car, so Castle Doctrine wouldn't apply anyways.

In hindsight, this looks like the best option. Just know that even with that JPD won't do a thing and you will never see your car again.

NOPD found my stolen car in the middle of NOLA East, so I'm currently happy with police in that area ha.

Is Robert Shuler Smith still the DA up there?
Posted on 1/9/17 at 8:56 am to Barf
He was indicted about 6 months ago but it ended in mistrial last week.

It's always a good time when the DA has his very own mugshot. I expect a fair trail

Jackson is a corrupt city that will convict this guy of first degree murder just because he is white. They've been itching for this.
A thug that was working at Panera Bread in Renaissance (Madison County) shot another thug last week in the parking lot. He doesn't have a chance.

This is bullshite. That man should be hailed as a hero.

He is represented by Merrida Coxwell, one of the finest attorneys in the Jackson Metro Area.

no way this dude should do any time
Baffling he was indicted in the first place
Had the kid never showed up and started trying to steal the lexus, this guy's life would have never changed. I feel bad for the shooter in this situation
