NASCAR doesn’t build tracks. Most of them are owned by a couple of other companies, one with similar ownership to NASCAR. NASCAR then contracts with the track owners to hold races at the tracks.

The top tier schedules are pretty full as is, attendance is dropping like crazy, and many drivers and owners are calling for fewer races. Existing tracks are removing whole sections of seats so they don’t look so empty on TV. Bristol, sold out for many years, has thousands of empty seats at every race in recent years.

That is not a good situation for building a new track and hoping to make money.

It may, however, be a good way for a slick talking developer and a construction company to make some $$$ off of idiots in Jackson, MS.

I grew up in Jackson and have seen it all. This will never work. Elton Road, east of I-55 is a pearl river swamp, not to mention the crime in south Jackson. Jackson screwed the pooch when they tried to hold the Atlanta Braves hostage on bringing a AAA team to Jackson...they set up shop in Pearl, (Bass Pro Shop, outlet mall ect...). This would be a haven for robberies and muggings, but hey what do I know. Meanwhile potholes, (really big potholes) abound.

It'd be the only black venue on the NASCAR circuit. Is this gonna be done before, or after the 200 million dollar football arena for Jackson St?

NASCAR reached its peak in the 1980's and early 90's. I'm a little surprised it's still around as a touring sport because of the political climate these days.

An NHRA level dragstrip built somewhere off the north side of 220 would make more sense than this. You could use it certain days and nights of the week for people to race or time their own vehicles by charging them a fee, and schedule it around the NHRA events. The police could oversee the non-sanctioned stuff. They used to do it back in the day.

FIFA level corruption on a Mississippi scale..

Why the hell else would you invest millions of dollars in a sport going by the wayside? And then try and cover it up in the name of diversity???

All the sheep and their #3 license plate caddies going to eat this up.

Isn't NASCAR on it's way out?
Just don't seem to hear much about it anymore.

I guess they need to bring in large groups of white people to rob. Someone has to pay for those rent to own rims.

This is a cool idea but if there’s a way for the local and state government to screw up bringing money to the state of Mississippi they will find a way.

Local government and state government is a joke here.

There's a drag track at Gilliam - it's crashed and burned several times.

IIRC, they are trying to change this because some hoodrat pointed out that it is a mostly white male event.

This would be a good economic boost for Jackson and the state of Mississippi. I would say that I hope this happens. Anything that brings money into the South, I'm pretty much for.
