I do get off Commonwealth holidays so there is some overlap for Christmas/Easter but it's still kinda annoying.

Banking holidays in the US mean much simpler days and actually working when 90% of the office is t in is very nice but it's also kinda lonely.

I worked for a company headquartered in Australia and we still had Labor Day and Memorial Day off.

What kind of nonsense do you work for?

I'm actually working with Australians now! It's a client by client basis so unless we have all of our clients agree to close shop for the day, and why would they, we have to provide the same daily services. It's even that way with some commonwealth holidays. Sometimes some Australians don't take all commonwealth holidays off so you can have a divergent split in the workload

Restaurant owner here. I'm open 361 days a year.

Over the last 5 or 6 years scheduling around banking holidays has become increasingly difficult. I use to have employees knocking on my door to work on holidays but now the standard request off for things like Labor Day is Thursday through Monday. Five days off is their idea of Labor Day weekend.

Exam week is even worse. I use to clear out my office so the employees could study or do homework but now they all want to take 10 days off for finals.

We have too many holidays. But hey, at 2.5x/hr I'm not bitching.

I think banks are closely tied to the government’s days off schedule. Something to do with regulators and a run on a bank years ago and no feds were working. I could be way off though.

The only months without a day off for Louisiana state workers are April, June, August and October.

I work all of them but thanksgiving day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. I get floating holidays to use later though.

Why limit it to state workers? Most non service industry jobs take those same holidays.

Found the state worker. I wasn't limiting it to state employees. I am not privy to the scheduling of private business so I chose not to assume their holiday schedule. My statement is factual and was only used to show I agreed we recognize entirely too many holidays.

The Holiday schedule is the least of my issues with state employees. As someone who has to do business with state regulatory bodies I could go on for days about the gross incompetence of state agencies.

Workers in the US work too much. Well, spend too much time in the office anyway. Dependent on industry of course. But for a great many industries, sitting at a desk watching a clock for 40 hours just because hurts productivity.

Let me guess.

All but New Year's Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
