Restaurant owner here. I'm open 361 days a year

I bartended at a big place through college that was only closed Easter day and Christmas day.

They were absolutely awful to deal with during exams. We couldn't take off, and no study material in the building.

I used to have some of my classmates come in and call flash cards and go over reading material at the bar. In exchange I throw a couple drinks their way.

I almost got fired one spring semester because no one would cover a thursday night shift for me to take an exam. Thursday were packed and they needed the help. Told my boss I had been there for 5 years and all my regulars would know exactly why I wasn't going to be there anymore.

Now I work in construction. I have even less days off than when I worked in a bar.

Found the state worker. I wasn't limiting it to state employees. I am not privy to the scheduling of private business so I chose not to assume their holiday schedule. My statement is factual and was only used to show I agreed we recognize entirely too many holidays.

Sorry it bothers you massa! Holidays in 8 of 12 months....the audacity.

I believe US workers have the lowest amount of vacation, sick leave and holiday time of any industrialized nation.

I worked for a company headquartered in Australia and we still had Labor Day and Memorial Day off. What kind of nonsense do you work for?

Exactly. Typically you observe the holidays in which the business is taking place like if you’re physically in the US you observe US holidays no matter where the actual hq is located. Like right now I’ve got people on my project sitting in Ukraine. They’re working today. But last week was their Independence Day so they were off while we were in the office.

Wut. It's the opposite. We work way too god damn much.

bullshite.

There is a federal or religious holiday that provides a 3 day weekend in January, February, March or April, May, July, September, October, November, and December, and again on January 1.

Based on threads here most people turn those 3 day weekends into 4 or 5 day weekends.

And based on the amount of posting here during work hours it is safe to say most OT'rs work about 45 minutes a day when they actually are on the job.
