Only on a class field trip. I remember we listened to a former teacher who killed the guy his wife was having an affair with. Middle aged white guy who had been there for 15 years or so.

It wasn’t a “scared straight” type of talk at all. More about how Angola prison reforms had improved in the 90s and how much he wished he could have just controlled his anger better so he could have gone back to his previous life.

Haven't been there but waiter at Palm in Vegas had served time there. Awkward moment, " what did you do time for?"
"Murder"
Just soup for me, no knives tonight.

I have been there for a class field trip.

Best homemade rolls ever. And fried chicken. Not kidding.

Many times. It’s certainly surreal, but I don’t find it in the least bit charming or in any way a treat.

I walked out of family court one day in 2011 just mumbling to myself over and over, "This is how they get killed. This shite RIGHT here."

But I went get a 2nd job that day instead of murdering her b/c I can control my rage. Later on that evening after a few beers, I felt a sudden wave of empathy for dudes in prison who did what I genuinely wanted to do that day.

Yes, you are correct and I edited my wording. And no, I don’t think it was charming.

Baseball tournament (I want so say 11-12 year old); trustees were groundskeepers and we were able to receive tours of facilities in between games (graveyards, gruesome Gertie, camp j(from outside) etc)
