It's Time for the Scientific Community to Admit We Were Wrong About COVID, It Cost Lives

As a medical student and researcher, I staunchly supported the efforts of the public health authorities when it came to COVID-19. I believed that the authorities responded to the largest public health crisis of our lives with compassion, diligence, and scientific expertise. I was with them when they called for lockdowns, vaccines, and boosters.
I was wrong. We in the scientific community were wrong. And it cost lives.
I can see now that the scientific community from the CDC to the WHO to the FDA and their representatives, repeatedly overstated the evidence and misled the public about its own views and policies, including on natural vs. artificial immunity, school closures and disease transmission, aerosol spread, mask mandates, and vaccine effectiveness and safety, especially among the young. All of these were scientific mistakes at the time, not in hindsight. Amazingly, some of these obfuscations continue to the present day.
But perhaps more important than any individual error was how inherently flawed the overall approach of the scientific community was, and continues to be. It was flawed in a way that undermined its efficacy and resulted in thousands if not millions of preventable deaths.
I'm surprised Newsweek printed this: LINK

Hope he didn’t plan on practicing in CA, you can lose your license out there for talking that way.

It's the first COVID mae culpa printed in a mainstream publication that I have seen.

You pussies just wanted to live in fear.

This incident in particular sticks in my craw:
Channel 2 Atlanta
I'd like to torture the moms and teachers who scuttled those UV lights, and do so without mercy. The people who made those lights were looking for a real answer to Covid. Those stupid bitches pounced on them at the first opportunity and they are absolute scum.
I pray for God's mercy on sinners because Jesus said to. It's tempting to wish some people damnation, though.

What we did not properly appreciate is that preferences determine how scientific expertise is used, and that our preferences might be—indeed, our preferences were—very different from many of the people that we serve. We created policy based on our preferences, then justified it using data. And then we portrayed those opposing our efforts as misguided, ignorant, selfish, and evil.
We made science a team sport, and in so doing, we made it no longer science. It became us versus them, and "they" responded the only way anyone might expect them to: by resisting.
But not blindly resisting. Resisting faulty recommendations based on faulty logic. Number one begin natural immunity is not effective as the vaccine. Or the vaccine prevents infection. Or masks can prevent covid.

So brave of Kevin. Yep, many people died over it. I have zero fricks to give about their rationalizations. That's keeping it short.

I agree. We should still be locked down

Once the "science" became political, it all went downhill.

It's OK to be wrong and admit where one was wrong and what one learned. That's a central part of the way science works.

Love how Hollywood stars and music peeps are making commercials now saying well you need the booster shots only if you are at high risk. NO shite I remember the lady gaga's and pinks of the World calling us SCUM of the earth for not getting vaccinated during peak covid. I guess since Daddy Biden fixed the covid the pure bloods are ok now. Fuk everyone of those dipshits.

China banned domestic air travel but continued to allow international air travel and no other "world leader" raised an eyebrow about it. This was in early 2020. That should have been the first really big clue that none of this shite was anywhere nearly as bad as media members were hoping it would be.

Don't worry, Kevin on Newsweek wrote an article so the curve has been flattened.

The sad thing about our current political climate is that this virus was used as a political weapon. Biden's sorry as camp used it against Trump, then when Biden took office, he tried to claim it as his accomplishment, but now that more of these are coming back out, they're using it against Trump again.
I say that's sad bc regardless of how severe you think or thought the virus was, people were dying with it. Whether they also had preexisting conditions, which I'm sure contributed to many, but it was still killing people. And our media and politicians turned it into an absolute shite show. And Trump gave them plenty of ammo.
Science and politics shouldn't mix, yet that's what happened here and we all see the fallout from it.
Also, when did the right become so anti vax and the left so pro vax? It seems only 5 or 10 years ago, it was the exact opposite.
