re: It's sad seeing millennials talk so gracefully about not having kids...

Turning 35 this year, married, and childfree. There are rare days that I wonder if I’m missing out and then I see our friends and family with theirs. That effectively cements my childfree status. I was parentified as a child and honestly, I would rather regret not having kids than regret having them.
This is selfish AF.

29F here, I’m a fence sitter. There’s something in me that really does want to have a kid but I also like the idea of having the money and freedom to travel and have other experiences that kids can kind of hinder. But then, there’s that nagging feeling that when I’m old I’ll regret it if I don’t have one. And I look at the amazing relationship my mom and I have and want that for myself with my own child, too.
I dunno man. shite’s hard
I can respect this.

Vasectomies and tube tie should be offered for free for anyone who wants it. Too many incompatible, unprepared people have kids they did not consciously produce. Left with kids in poverty, in broken homes, underfed and under-educated. And that could be prevented with a free vasectomy
Change my mind
Because at least tube tying is not very reversible, so why encourage women to do something potentially permanent that they might regret later?

It was worth the wait.

I tend to agree. I believe that my wife and I were put on this planet to adopt and raise our daughter.
I think so far we're doing a good job.

That’s a pretty fricked up thing to say. So if your kid needed a kidney you’d be willing to take one from another human against their will?

42, no kids and I never want them. I enjoy my free time and doing whatever I want

Yourself and your child will at times be vulnerable and at someone’s mercy, let’s hope they are equipped with a better moral compass than you.

There is going to be a mental health epidemic of childless middle age people who realize their life of travel and leisure was worthless and empty but they physically can’t have kids. It’s going to be something to watch. Maybe we see a surge of surrogate immigrants carrying babies.

On that fact alone, people should at least consider children. Literal thousands of generations to get to your existence and it ends with you.

Sometimes I wonder if it is the individualistic American society we live in that makes it all about me and my pleasure.
Whatever it is you would think evolution would quickly snuff it out in a few generations. Before that happens the demographics of this country will quickly change because immigrants and foreigners still want lots of kids.

What you described is evolution snuffing it out.

what is the root of all of this damned non conformist, instituational loathing, I'll do it my own way mindset that culminates in untethered self expression, thus eventually producing non binary genders and the like.
And then it hit me...
We created it.
It starts with corporate greed. Does it not?
No, it does not.
You say that Christian Charity is the answer - not Marxism or Capitalism. But Christian Charity is not an economic system, which the other two are.

Maybe they’ll adopt since we are limiting abortion

If I was given a choice
Save my child and that means I murder person X who is innocent, or let person X live and my child dies I don’t think I’m the person to let my child die
That’s me being honest with you. My moral compass is strong enough for honesty

They can have their endless freedom, they’ll never know the feeling of putting your daughter to bed and she says “I want to keep you forever”. That’s real. That’s pure. That’s something they’ll never get to experience.
Parenting is the most challenging and rewarding part of human existence and I wouldn’t trade a second.

I just got back from the beach for an 8 day trip in a 3,000 sq ft house with 10 adults and 8 kids between ages 0 to 5. If that trip made a lasting memory, it's that having 8 toddlers for 8 days is hell. I did not enjoy a single bit of the trip. It was constant crying, yelling, fits, maniac type crying. I just had a really, really hard time seeing why I would want that. If I do, it'll likely be 1. At absolute max possible 2, but prob not.
The ratio of them being pleasant to be around vs. horrible to be around was like 10:90. Just hard for me to see any "rewarding experience" in that. Sorry if offensive, that's just what it was. If it's yours then probably different. If the burden is placed on someone else, it's just awful.

That’s an absolutely ridiculous metric to measure parenthood off of.
