re: It's Ridiculous to Support a Team When You Didn't Go To School There

quote:Exactly. It's a college team. For college students and alumni.
so, for those people who never went to college...they should not support any college teams?

While we're at it, it's also completely ridiculous to remain faithful to a professional team if you live more than 150 miles from that team's city.
150 miles? You shouldn't cheer for an NFL team unless you've played or worked for the organization.

That makes zero sense. At it's purest form, universities promote athletics to build esprit de corps with their student base, the only people who have a reason to cheer for and remain loyal to a team.
Not so fast, chopper.
I know four engineers from OHIO who graduated from Dayton but are OSU fans.
Reason is OSU is much harder to get a free ride to for nerds like them compared to Dayton. I had no idea. They get a pass.

Did you ever consider that someone may have a family member that attends that university that they pull for or perhaps even plays for the team?
Are you a fan of Star Wars? Do you live anywhere near Star Wars?
Are you a fan of Hilary Clinton? Do you live next to her? Do you eat her pussy?
It's all about entertainment, not whether or not you live within 150 miles or attended the university.
Why do 8 year old kids worship their favorite NFL team that may be halfway across the country when they have an NFL team within 50 miles of their home?
Now stop trolling and GTFOH.

If your child attends and you personally pay for it... you should be allowed to be a fan and watch games on TV, but only alumni should be allowed to enter a stadium. fricking sidewalk fans need to live in isolation.

It's the sidewalk fans that fill stadiums every week. DA

Who do the plant operator ballers root for since they didn't waste time in college?
Posted on 12/15/15 at 8:34 am to Poncho
If you're from the area, I think that's one thing. The LA license plates with Alabama stickers on their vehicle look like idiots. To me I don't really see any reason to root for a team in any sport you have no connection with. How could you possibly get real enjoyment out of that?

You guys just got called out; LSU grads agree with me.
Carry on.

I wonder how much money major universities would lose if only students and alumni were allowed to be fans.

Its not that hard to get season tickets to Tulane or find a place to tailgate in the neighborhood in Uptown New Orleans.
Please god don't tell me you have Tulane season tickets. You couldn't pay me to watch that abortion of a football program.

I'm just saying, you look ridiculous pulling for a school when you don't have a degree from that institution.
Then it gets awkward when I talk to combatant fans who take college football way too seriously, and then I ask what year they graduated.

I’m a giant LSU fan and graduated from Ole Miss.
I am from Baton Rouge, grew up a stones throw from campus from birth to 18, and my mom teaches at LSU. None of my 3 siblings nor I attended LSU because of these reasons. We wanted to leave Baton Rouge and meet new people. My friends in HS that went to LSU mostly regret it because they kept the same friend group, went to the same bars as we did our senior year of HS, etc.
I think it was the best decision I ever made. I kept my core hometown best friends and made lots of new best friends from all over the country (Ole Miss has over 50% out of state students). And I met my wife.
Plus, its 5 hours away so I drove back for all the big games and brought my friends to show them what a real football stadium and tailgating looks like
Also, I wore LSU gear to LSU/Ole Miss games and had a purple tent in the grove that drove my Ole Miss buddies up a wall.
Bottom line: People who go to a school for a football program, that aren’t football players, have their priorities all sorts of fricked up.

Also, are you taking into fact the people who got Ivy League degrees from Louisiana that are big LSU fans?

Hell no. I'm an LSU undergrad and Grad Student alum. I put that in there cause the OP tool says he is a Tulane fan.
