Even ownership of the hospitality hotel industry hates the Bayou Classic weekend - things get stolen from the hotel rooms (way more than normal), things get broken in the hotel rooms (way more than normal)
Tips are non existent....the weekend guest talk loud on their cell phones in the hotel lobby....people shoot other people,

The Bayou Classic is bad for business. Move the game to ATL or Houston.

What was the law city council pushed under Mitch a few years ago.........something about restaurants not being able to close for "remodeling projects" during Bayou Classic?

neither city deserves that burden. It should just be a home and home series.

I love how this is supposed to be the standard for 'everything is just peachy keen down here.'

I'm not saying you're making that proposition (it doesn't seem you are), but others seem to be. frick anyone who is.

Politics, ignorance, activists, and attitude prevent NOLA from ever being cleaned up. Lots of people love to live or visit there. Let them continue to do as they please, but at their own risk and at their own expense.

Bourbon St ain't what it used to be and for that matter New Orleans ain't what it used to be!!! It's not the guns it's the people using them which is the problem!!!!!

Meh. It does suck now, but going back several decades Bourbon has always had issues and was sketchy as all hell at one time.

Two best times to be on Bourbon with the best crowds is during the red dress run and on the day the Saints played in the super bowl

I lived in NOLA for a number of years, and the difference in how you carry yourself didn't really hit me until I spent time in Vienna. The ability to relax on the streets there was insane compared to NOLA. With that said I was never a victim of crime in NOLA and would move back if it made sense for my wife and I. Overall you can easily be safe in NOLA if you take some minimum precautions.

I can agree with that. It is really nice to not have to "take precautions." We as members of society shouldn't have to "take precautions," but that's life. If you do, you are likely to not have much trouble in NO.

I have to say I am happy that I don't have to do that any more for the most part. It actually creeped me out at first feeling this safe

I just came back from a week in East Tennessee. man talk about feeling safe and being around nice people while having easy access to great outdoor scenery.
Was blown away by how nice everyone was. Even gas station workers and fast food employees. Had two people working in a Pizza Hut wish me a happy Thanksgiving and told me to have a blessed day.
Don't get near that attitude in south La

Bad things aside, this is BS. I've seen the tourism numbers, Bayou Classic is a still a top 12 tourism revenue weekend in New Orleans. All those hotels might not make as much money as Mardi Gras or Jazzfest but they still get their 3 night minimums and double rates. Sure that offsets any extra cleaning charges.

Yes its not Jazzfest or Mardi Gras, but trust me those same industry folks will never turn away the Classic.

The service workers here are super nice too.

New Orleans service workers can frustrate the hell out of you for not giving a frick, but in certain situations that can be a real asset too, oddly enough.

That works for during the day. At night, you'd better have some experience around town. There are only a few places in the city I feel uncomfortable going during the day. Everywhere else is peachy keen

There's about zero chance that one can reside in NOLA and not know of anyone affected by crime.

Well to be honest I was including a good sense of where not to go as part of how you carry yourself. Along with being alert to who is around you, not showing any valuables, not stopping to talk to strangers, etc.

Even here in Houston (which certainly has its dangerous areas), you can find areas where you can just wander around at night without significant fear. In NOLA I always felt very cognizant of which side streets I went on, how far I went from the main street, etc.

All that said, if you know what you are doing even being out at night in NOLA isn't particularly dangerous.
