I guess we have another season of Sea Shepards coming! I love to watch those crazy bastards try to stop the Japan whaling operation. Really is good entertainment.

Yup. If SJWs want to stop the pollution in the Pacific Ocean, they need to start in Asia

UMMM..do I have to be an SJW to not want pollution in the water? Perhaps if well meaning humans want to stop pollution in the Pacific Ocean we should start with Asia?

The Japanese are a brutal people but I really don't understand how whaling became taboo in the west.

And they gave us this:

Let me clarify something.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of your country and culture. But it never hurts to have self introspection on societal problems.

Japan has many problems stemming from balancing its modern economy with strict cultural norms. A perfect example of this is how much they work in comparison to western countries, yet it doesn't significantly increase their productivity.

That, and with unhealthy low birthrates, they wont have much of increase in productivity to begin with.

It's a more nuanced and concerning problem than Westerners are willing to acknowledge.

Because you're hunting an animal into extinction. I'm not a tree-hugger but even I acknowledge basic ecological principles of conservation.

I want whales to exist for many generations to come. Plus they serve a important purpose in oceanic ecology.

We used whales for their blubber to create oil. When western countries found better/less dangerous ways of obtaining oil, we abandoned the practice.

There is simply no need to hunt whales. It serves no purpose and is a practice that should no longer be tolerated.

I don't have a problem with the hunting / fishing of any species so long as it is done responsibly (i.e. making sure proper limits / restrictions are in place, conservation policies for endangered / threatened species, etc.) and humanely. I think a lot of our animal rights friends don't understand how an ecosystem has worked over history, but as the most intelligence form of life, it is our responsibility to make sure we do things properly.

This is really my biggest concern about it. I just dont want Whales to be the Buffalo of the sea.
