When I graduated HS I weighed about 140 at 5'10. I didn't break 180 until I was about 22 and I was ripped. Now at 43 I know I'll never be under 200lbs again and really don't care. I pull more women having money and being confident, than with a six pack and eating salads..
Don't give up. I thought the exact same thing (pretty much same height, same high school weight that you list and a long, long time over 200), and I've been under 200 for over a year now and showing no sign of going up.
Full disclosure - I had end stage liver disease (non alcoholic cirrhosis) and ended up getting a transplant. But even after the transplant, it's stayed off and actually has kept up a slow downward trend.
Major culprit for me was soft drinks - particularly Diet Cokes. I haven't had a carbonated beverage of any kind since before my transplant.

i have ridiculously good genetics.
i’m 39 and can’t gain weight if i tried.
i eat like a fricking Horse and still top out at about 150 (i’m 5’ 8”). Is probably be 375# if not for luck of the draw with genes.
high school when i was still bailing hay all summer then playing football and working out all fall, i only got up close to 160 and was pretty ripped, just not big.

you are correct that weight is caused by genetics

I’m about to stop at Whatabuger and get a double or a triple with extra cheese.
I haven’t decided which one yet.

I went under 200 and everyone thought I was on drugs, so I gained it back. Lol
I still wear 36 so I'm not that fat. But I wish I had more stamina.
I just jogged a mile, and now I'm drinking a milkshake.
I also probably consume more coke zeros than anyone else on the planet.
But I still have strength and speed.
Just no endurance.

Those things and fast food are two of the worst for trying to lose weight and keep it off IMHO. I can easily keep the weight off even with things like chips and sweets. But if I were to go back to carbonated beverages and frequent visits to fast food restaurants, I have no doubt that the weight would shoot back up.
