The library got its funding because they scare-mongered people in the 80s by saying “if you don’t pass this tax, the libraries will shut down.”
Once the tax passed, they decided that since the library now had a dedicated tax, they were going to take all that money formerly earmarked for it and spend it on a lot of shite the public didn’t want.
Hence the history of people not wanting to approve taxes around here.

John Engquist, who also is a developer, opted last year for H&E Equipment Services to be annexed into the city of Baton Rouge rather than remain within the proposed boundaries of the city of St. George. At the time, Engquist threatened to pack up his publicly-traded company and move out of state should the firm and his nearby planned Materra residential development be forced to remain in St. George.
1st of all. Non-vetted construction permits is half the fricking problem in Baton Rouge. Also, if he believes in NBR so much, he can move there. Problem solved. frick that POS!

I’ll do it John. Hell I’ll even pretend stuff that isn’t racist is racist

Didn’t we go to school with this a-hole’s kid?
We went to school with a lot of assholes kids - but yeah I think he was class of '97
ETA: He may have been one of those that left after 8th grade though.

Because it actually gets used
You do realize they move potential jurors thru there almost daily. Add the homeless and there’s over half the use of the downtown library. Libraries are a waste of real estate and paper, everything is available online.

Last jury duty I had a few weeks ago we didn't go into the library.
We had to stay in the room inside the 19th idc building.
You would think they could afford to buy new movies and not show the same movie over and over again.

Same. They only let us out for lunch, otherwise we had to stay in the big room just past security.

Same for the last two time I went, but that was while the white elephant was under construction.

All the new movies are at the library.

The court shows the same few movies at the jury holding area.
Last time I remember going it was some movie about an officer accompanying a dead soldier back to be buried.

Kevin bacon movie. I thought - now why show this depressing shite while people are already pissed off having to do jury duty.

Engquist's only motivation for this is so that his investment in Rouzan doesn't crater. Not to mention the devaluation of Level Home's portfolio. It's a giant circle jerk for the haves in BR. frick em.

Level is him? Figures.
No one likes any of the builders around here but I find DSLD less an issue than Level or Horton.
Level builds DSLD quality homes but at inflated prices.
Horton build shite homes at just below DSLD prices.
DSLD isn’t great but better than either of those two chucklefricks.

Engquist testified that he believes the boundaries of the majority-White St. George were "racially motivated," a perception that he said harms his ability to recruit employees. "Perception becomes reality," he said
What he believes isn't fricking evidence.
And I can assure you, it's the shitty school system, rampant crime, traffic and crumbling infrastructure that's harming his ability to hire employees - NOT St. G.
Just ask Albemarle

How is he even allowed to testify?

SWB called him as a witness because he is one of the people bankrolling this shite show.
This may have flown in a jury trial but a judge has to be thinking “Quit wasting my fricking time.”

So anyone bankrolling Broome can testify?

His son is one of the top guys and they're doing the building in Rouzan.

Apparently.
Her side came up with the witness list for the plaintiff side and so far it has included her butt puppet, MP, as well as her financial backer, Engquist.
Downside for her is that bringing this parade of clowns through without making a coherent argument may result in a dismissal before the St George side puts on a defense.

Lol, I didn't know this. Glad I know it now. frick Enquist, H&E, Rouzan and Level Homes. Hope the wall around Rouzan is big enough to keep out the riff raff.
