Over 40% of the country is Maronite Christian.

Please stop spreading false statistics you know nothing about. The entire Christian proportion is like 30%. Maronites make up about 2/3 of that if you are generous. They are like 20% of the population.

You guys honestly think you understand the dynamics of things in Lebanon and that Syria and Iran have fully control the government?

I’ve seen ignorance and buying into propaganda before, but you all buy it so easily, it always amazes me.

Insecure about what?

I was just insecure in high school man. I was the oldest kid of the family, very sheltered and not allowed to do a lot of things.

Now, in my 5th year of college I look back and think about how much of a pussy I was.

Lets just say that my first and second freshman year is very hazy due to me being free from authority

Lebanese women can be wonderful.
Indeed, there's a few Lebanese Maronite families in Lafayette and the girls are usually pretty good looking although a lot of them are watered down with Cajun and other types of European heritage.

Here's a good quote to help understand Beirut from Friedman:

quote:

Because Beirut was never just a city. It was an idea—an idea that meant something not only to the Lebanese but to the entire Arab world. While today just the word “Beirut” evokes images of hell on earth, for years Beirut represented—maybe dishonestly—something quite different, something almost gentle: the idea of coexistence and the spirit of tolerance, the idea that diverse religious communities—Shiites, Sunnis, Christians, and Druse—could live together, and even thrive, in one city and one country without having to abandon altogether their individual identities.

And another that illustrates why it is so difficult to actually make work:

quote:

The first and oldest of these traditions is tribe-like politics. I use the term “tribe-like” to refer to a pre-modern form of political interaction characterized by a harsh, survivalist quality and an adherence to certain intense primordial or kin-group forms of allegiance. Sometimes the tribe-like group that is in power in the Middle East, or is seeking power, is an actual tribe, sometimes it is a clan, members of a religious sect, a village group, a regional group; sometimes it is friends from a certain neighborhood, an army unit, and sometimes it is a combination of these groups. What all these associations have in common is the fact that their members are all bound together by a tribe-like spirit of solidarity, a total obligation to one another, and a mutual loyalty that takes precedence over allegiances to the wider national community or nation-state.

It was actually decent compared to other developing countries. Their currency is basically worthless right now though.

If civil unrest continues to worsen here, we could see similar.

I don’t believe the explosion was due to Mossad or a missile or anything else. I 100% believe that the government through massive incompetence and corruption let tons of explosive material sit unattended for years in a densely populated urban area. Those same officials incompetence resulted in a fire that spread to that material and resulted in an explosion that killed a ton of the citizens that the government is charged with protecting.

That’s why they should protest and demand change in their government.

Your are in the wrong place for common sense...

You know darn well that Nancy Pelosi launched that missile. The warehouse was full of Hydroxychloroquine.

They have been sick of Hezbollah for a while. A lot of Israelis and Lebanese just want to go about their day and leave others alone. Hezbollah is the exception. Lebanon’s government should give Israel authority to go in and clean house with Hezbollah.

You don’t know much about Mossad operations if you think this was how they do things.
