At first glance your observation appears to be correct, but without closer evaluation, one can not rule out the Red-cockaded woodpecker.
Had a Northern Flicker rustling up the back yard one morning last week. Pleasantly fun to watch!

Yes, one can with a number of features:
1. The amount of red on head. (More than a RCW.)
2. The amount of black on head. (More than a RCW.)
3. The amount of white on head. (Less than a RCW.)
4. The white back. (RCW's have the barred/ladder back rather than plain white.)
It may not be a Hairy, but it's certainly not a RCW.
