The idea that we could lock down, try to keep the population uninfected and then emerge to a wonderful infection free life was a huge folly.

Those places =/= the US. And they didn't achieve what they did by shutting down. I was referring to the situation in the US. The idea that we can isolate a city or state to the point of being infection free strikes me as foolish.

That is factually incorrect. There is still a steady decline in new cases across the country. There are certain pockets seeing surges - namely states that did not have major surges in the Spring.

Louisiana has had no surge either
We have remained steady regardless At around 5% of test returning positive
It seems an area gets to a certain amount of its population being infected, and then it levels off regardless of phasing/sheltering in place
So, all the sheltering and social distancing seems like it was a waste and prevented nothing
The states/areas you see with increadihn cases now, never had the virus “surge” in the spring like other places. The data is so clear yet people can’t figure this out
And to the person saying America is surging is completely false. America has seen its biggest decreases in the last few weeks

This all has to do with how people act when things open up. If people disregard safety, the virus spreads more efficiently.

Protect the old and sick especially the folks in nursing homes that accounted for 45% of the deaths.

I see a lot of masks and we still haven’t opened for live music. Louisiana has been very conservative in its response, and pretty well behaved overall.
But it would be foolish to assume it’s over. Based on what?
Prudent care should still be the order of the day, because there won’t be additional shut downs. We’ve learned enough to know that close personal contact, even more than surfaces, is the primary spreader. Keeping distance, wearing masks when in close contact and washing hands should be enough to keep the virus at bay.

TBoy we’ve had live music here — husband is in a band that has been playing. At least two of the restaurants in my small town have had live music. Granted it’s outside but it’s happening.

Sloane what do you mean by we never really flattened the curve? I thought that was done a while ago by not overwhelming the medical system. And I’m not sure why anyone ever thought that we’d be infection free — I mean you can’t run or hide from a virus forever. It is what it is — wash your hands, don’t touch your face and done get too close.
