re: It's 2019, stop putting underscores in file names

Disagree on underscores. You still need underscores if working from a LAN server and hyperlink to the files. It can still be worked around but the file path gets interrupted with a space.
Agree on spaces after periods. Two periods were only required for typewriters because of the standard character size. Word processors take this into account so only one space is needed.

where do we stand on colored text in emails? as in something other than black for the text.
Perfectly fine if someone emailed you a list of questions and you replied to each in a different color to differentiate between the question and the reply and it's 2019, why the frick doesn't Outlook let me just quote stuff?
If you send an original email in a green font, I'm forever assuming you're an idiot and an a-hole.

Good points. I often answer specific questions in correspondence in bracketed red type.

Underscores: don't care
Two spaces: Obsolete as others have mentioned. I use one, but don't really care of I see two.
Oxford comma: People who don't use the Oxford comma need to be put in camps.

I generally prefer to use the oxford comma but in some situations it is uncalled for.

Study: Two Spaces are Better
Holy crap, I just read that article and that study is so poorly designed I had to google “Skidmore College” to see if they were real. Apparently their admissions standards are quite high, which makes me wonder if anyone pointed out the issues:
- Only 60 subjects evaluated, all of whom were college students (meaning they have likely never even seen a typewriter and have grown up with modern fonts).
- Study used a mono space font, which means it completely ignores the reason why people don’t think two spaces are necessary anymore.
- Their conclusions are based on this:
quote:
In the Skidmore study, among people who write with two spaces after periods—“two-spacers”—there was an increase in reading speed of 3 percent when reading text with two spaces following periods, as compared to one.
So out of those 60 millennials who have grown up with MS Word, what, 2 had faster reading comprehension?
