They can still receive ITEP...just not the portion that is allocated to EBRPSS.

Imo that is fine but it should be a singular independent board. I don’t want to have to chose my vote for school board based on their understanding of tax code and the indirect impact of job creation. That’s my issue I want to vote for school board on how well they know to educate kids.

The school board has been in charge of massive budgets for decades. Unfortunately, their economic knowledge or lack there of should always matter.

Do you understand that immovable equipment which by law itep applies to has a depreciation schedule of 20 years.

Of course, but after 10 years a majority of the value is gone. See the whole ordeal with Cameron Parish and their negotiations specifically on this issue that required a constitutional amendment in November.

Ok, so the school board voted against XOM’s ITEP request. So what’s next?

This deal was jacked up from the start. Exxon waited to apply for the abatement until the state had clarified the ITEP guidelines, but they didn't wait to actually start the capital projects. As a result, the school board was voting on two projects that were already well under way (one was already finished), so Exxon had very little current leverage.

I'd imagine they'll wait for approval before the invest another dollar going forward.

Why is the achool board (probably the most inept assembly of individuals in Baton Rouge, yes I know, saying alot) voting on something that affects the whole parish?

The school board is voting on whether or not Exxon should be granted a 10-year tax exemption for the EBR school board property taxes.

I'd imagine people will pay closer attention to the next round of school board races.

I do not generally side with huge POS corporations, but in this case WTF are these idiots on the EBRP school board thinking? How fricking stupid.

Beggars can't be choosers, ignorant entitled morons.

I’ll have to dig some more, but Louisiana teachers are some of the lowest paid teachers across the country. There are schools here in Calacsieu Parish and Cameron that can’t afford what’s needed on a daily basis.

All the while you have school superintendents and admin in small parishes pulling in 150-200k with 50 days vacation and the teachers in those parishes don't make shite.

It’s only 8 years now and it starts at 20%. That’s the new program. So that would be about 1/2, But for those 8 years...
Each direct Manufacturing job creates ~4 other jobs in the local area
These are high paying jobs.
These are people paying local taxes etc....
So when they factor in that 2.9 million on a deal like that do they include those numbers? No they don’t.

That teacher in the article doesn't have a goddamn clue where all of the school appropriations are actually going.
She's waiting for the teacher unions to explain it to her.

OTOH, if these teachers wouldn't accept the shitty low paying job maybe the district would be forced to improve pay.

employers pay what people will accept. If no one accepts the pay, i'll bet the salary would increase.

Congrats to wanting a better quality of life. What part of TX are you moving to?

10% of all people born in Louisiana eventually move to TX
