going out to dinner. It sucks spending $100+ per meal for regular stuff
Yes. Do you think fewer people are eating out at nice restaurants? I honestly can’t tell a difference pre-Covid.

Car for me. My car is 11 years old now which still runs okay, but I thought of getting a new one, but won't until the prices start coming down. They're ridiculous.
This. Thought about getting something nice and new when I got my full licensure/raise. But frick that.
Even used car prices are just stupid right now.

But I emphasized that we will start shopping again instead of just ordering groceries. The wife had gotten extremely lazy with that.
And even the small instacart fee is less than impulse items purchased in store.

Plane tickets
while not cheap by any means, we have been flying alot lately. We try to fly southwest where possible and use points.
for example -flying to fort worth texas friday and flights were right at 100 each for 3. great price, not really but i have seen them way worse

Wrong. Current lumber prices are way lower than pandemic prices (when lumber prices quadrupled), but are still higher than pre-pandemic prices by about 20%. There is room to move a little lower, but we will never see sustained pre-pandemic prices again.
To be fair I never expect 5 year old pricing to be the norm. 20% is a steep gain but getting much closer to what you’d expect with say 3% a year increase. Still a shade high but by comparison to the worst…

We're not eating out nearly as much but that has more to do with the crappy service and/or food quality you get these days because of staffing shortages.

Exactly.
Look at regular sedans like Accords or Sonatas that are like a couple years old with 20,000 miles, still around $30,000. frick that.

What’s the argument against this?
There are numerous studies showing the positive effects of travel for one’s mental health.

The feds are saying they are going to have to continue to raise rates to curb inflation even more. So...how long do you plan on waiting exactly?

Not quite true
Before WWII you traveled by train and your destination was family
In the summer the wives and kids got put on the train to visit relatives in the summer for about a month so the men and older boys could stay and work the crops.

Vacations for this year look bleak. Last year we spent 8-10 days in Texas and 8-10 days in California, and that was after a week-long cruise around Thanksgiving.
This year, we may take a 3-4 day cruise during Spring Break. Looking at doing some Overlanding out of the truck this summer, stay in free camping places and hang out in the mountains.
Also will put off buying a large carport (26 x 30?). Everything will just need to sit outside.
But, will still buy a used car and finish enclosing my garage. But I've planned for those.
One thing for sure is I get cheaper and cheaper the closer I get to retirement, which I justify bc of this crazy inflation.
