I'm all for annual mandatory driving test. It's weird that they don't have them considering driving laws change all the time.
Let's look at what other countries do. In Finland for example, here are the requirements for getting a license:
quote:
The license can be obtained either in a private driving school or given by a near relative who has a driver's license. If the person is trained by a relative, the relative must obtain a special instructor's permit and have a car fitted and inspected with an extra set of brake pedals for the front passenger. The training for B class license requires 18 hours of instructed driving, including a spell on a slippery driving course, and 19 theory lessons. After this, the person must pass a computerized theory test and a driving test in city traffic with a minimum length of 30 minutes.
quote:
The initial license is issued for two years. During this time, the new driver may receive a maximum of two traffic fines in total. If the number of fines is exceeded, the license is revoked and the driver is required to re-take the exam. Even with one fine, the interim period may be extended for a maximum of two years. During the interim period, there are two different phases. Phase called practicing period which consist self learning and some teaching in a driving school. Practicing period takes at least three months. After that you have to complete advanced phase, which includes a slippery driving course, some education in a driving school and participate in dark time driving training, unless this was part of the initial training. (Finnish lighting conditions prevent the dark time training during summer.)
Wow! They make the student driver spend time on a slippery course in the dark. In a country where it is dark and snows 6 months out of the year. It's almost as if they want to train new drivers to handle all types of driving conditions.

Was on BC spillway heading back into NO about 1:30pm today, just cruising right lane around 63mph, traffic fairly light. Suddenly I’m passed on my right
Caught me off guard

If you go more than 10 below the speed limit, you should be pulled over by the police and beat with nightsticks.

Getting right on the arse of someone in front of you, regardless of heir speed, is anything but accidental.
It is a conscious decision to be a selfish dickhead.

You're correct, but in BR surface streets can and will increase your drive time if you're going across town.
I take i10 to Gonzales every day because taking airline takes an extra 10-15 minutes....and my office is a half mile off of airline in gonzo.

alright i need to fricking vent...
you want to know why our insurance rates are so high?
this piece of shite is driving a vehicle with colorado plates, but lives in denham springs, and her insurance company is "N/A"
trooper cant cite her or have her towed because "he cant verify insurance on out of state vehicle". she came right out and said she didnt have insurance!
she got cited for following too close, so now she's back on the road, on her merry way.
and i have to pay to get my truck fixed
my recourse is to sue her in civil court for damages...surely she'd got a trust find or something i can go after

Horrible road design
Zero road maintenance
Poorly maintained/POS vehicles
Unqualified/careless/reckless 18 Wheeler drivers
Overabundance of low IQ drivers
I travel regularly, and there are more accidents and other screw ups on the BR road system day after day than LA, Houston and Chicago.

quote:I-10 and I-12 have already been widened and people can't drive any better than before.
What more can be done about this problem?
DMV needs to require a passing score on an intelligence test in addition to all other current requirements to be issued a driver's license.
One good suggestion I've seen is to ban automatic transmissions. If everybody had to drive a stick, you'd weed out the morons in no time.

she had no insurance card, she put N/A on the crash report, and the trooper lets her drive off...

Make left lane for passing only. Enforce with $500 fine. Accidents will go down 50% within 6 months.
The name of the game is stay the frick out of everyone elses way. get over or move that arse. you are not the police or a pace car. MOVE.
and one more thing!
people who stop to let people in just to feel like theyre a nice person and get a wave, completely disregarding the 30 people behind them that had to stop as well, piss me the hell off.
Send that shite out like an amber alert. NEW FINE BEING INTRODUCED. TELL YO FRENS
