It is accidents way more than "traffic"

This morning, ONCE AGAIN, I was forced to use surface streets all the way from north BR to my office on Essen Lane because of two accidents on I-10 east between the bridge and the split. This afternoon, in regard to my return home, both Essen Lane and I-10 west are essentially shut down due to . . . accidents. My surface street odyssey will take me well over an hour to make essentially a 23 minute drive. Just last week, my 23 minute drive to work took me an hour and ten minutes due to some idiot that couldn't negotiate the curve in front of the gov. mansion. I was very late for an important appointment; I'm guessing I wasn't the only one.

This happens frequently and I am sick of it. I'll never, ever understand why people can't drive in a straight line at 65 mph without running into somebody. Are people generally that incompetent? What more can be done about this problem? Take people's keys away from them? Add a $500 penalty for causing an accident on the interstate?

Traffic/accidents is the number one reason why I am counting down the days to my retirement. I will be more than happy to never drive in this city again.

thanks for listening

Widening the section between the bridge and the split to 8 lanes, correct the alignment, add shoulders, and improve the lighting.

You know...basic improvements that should have been done 25 years ago.

Require that people demonstrate competency before handing them a drivers license?

On I-10 east to NOLA this morning right before the LaPlace exit, we were delayed at least 30 minutes because of a serious wreck. Looked like a chain reaction of rear end collisions; and this is absolutely a straight line. People driving too fast and/or on the phone.

Louisiana is too corrupt to make any major improvements in our lifetime. Everything needs a 3 phase environmental impact study that costs 5 million per phase. And nothing ever gets done bc the politicians are spineless and do not want to offend 1% of the population (think Washington St. Exit)

Your best bet is to move. Here in Florida there is traffic but they make improvements to roadways and freeways year round. And it doesn't take 5 years to expand a shoulder on a quarter mile of street

I'd say 75% of accidents nowadays are because people refuse to put down their phones while driving. It's infuriating for sure.

This is your problem

Interstates weren’t built for local traffic.. you SHOULD be using surface streets.

If you have to get on the interstate daily, you’re doing it wrong.

You need to get back to the drawing board Bub

So you had to use city streets to commute in the city?

That's the way it should be.

I'm all for annual mandatory driving test. It's weird that they don't have them considering driving laws change all the time.

If you will look at it like being able to cut your hope long commute to 23 minutes occasionally, you will feel better.

I feel ya, OP. It’s infuriating how many wrecks happen on interstates. Just go straight forward. It’s not complicated.

I imagine cell phone use while driving has made things worse but I don’t know the statistics.
