re: It is accidents way more than "traffic"

I've always said that. Ticket and fine the shite out of the people that cause "accidents" in rush hour. I bet everyone would be more careful.

I use to have a job in which I had to create a database and figure out how to come up with away to find out information that can be used to decrease accidents, including traffic accidents within a certain area, I would think there would be away to look at all the information on each wreck and implement a few changes.. Even if it isn't anything major, if it it prevents 1 less wreck a month then it better than not having it.

During the period of full moons, there is usually an increase in wrecks. There is a slight increase in gravitational pull, which actually slightly increases hormones humans produce and it can make people be slightly more aggressive than usual. For those who think I am full of shite, google it. When I first noticed more accidents were happening during a full moon period, I thought it had to be coincidence, but I researched it to see if there could be a reason why and that's what I found.

With the wrecks that we see between the Grosse Tete exit and Lobdell exit, my theory as to why there are a lot of multi vehicle wrecks in that, that area drivers feel more comfortable driving in that area. I know the many times I have gone that way, once you get past the lobdell exit, the traffic thins out a little bit and I know I tend to go a little bit faster once I pass that areas out of comfort. People are probably looking at their phones more, etc. If they would bring more attention, in that area, about people playing on their phones and getting in fatal wrecks, I would bet there would be a decrease in wrecks there.

There should also be some collaboration with all the departments that are downtown especially those who work for the state. I would assume most of them have to be at work around the same time and they let out at the same time. I am not sure what department could do this, but maybe they can adjust times. Some departments open at 7:30AM, some at 8:00AM and some at 8:30AM.

In reality, the traffic volume isn't really that big of a problem. If there is no wreck and traffic is moving like it should be, it doesn't affect my drive time.. And that's at peak hours, it's the accidents.. And what sucks is that you can get to work 10 mins early one day then the next day, because of an accident you are 30 mins late..

Between people playing on their phones and the high amount of drivers that think their shitty cars and pickups handle like Formula 1 cars while weaving between lanes, it's not a shock that there are wrecks every day through BR.
