this is a late reply but I really want to emphasize how good of a post this is
Leftists want to focus on things they can control- govt is something you can control. You write laws and enforce them.
The right (to an extent) will focus on what you cannot control- the individual is unpredictable and a product of their own choices.
The left wants to influence the decisions of the individual. The right wants to accentuate the “good” decisions of the individual and select-out the “bad” decisions of the individual.
