So, I got to thinking since only like 40% of males mate with a female right? Only like 50% of females have children as well, so yeah only like half the population breeds.
If you go back far enough there would be royalties which mean we are pretty much all related and have royal ancestors.

Most Europeans of non-British extraction are pretty likely to have Carloginian blood.

Do you mean mate successfully, as in produce offspring? Or just have intercourse? Either way, it has to be much higher than 40%. The number of males who mate with a female at some point in their life, offspring or no offspring, must be 98%. The percentage that eventually father children I would guess has to be over 65%.

I don't know about the accuracy of you percentages, but you are right that a vast majority of people, if they take the time and effort to do it, could trace their family back to royalty. I've done it for my family and gone as far back as William the Conqueror and some of the Anglo-Saxon kings that preceded him, although you have to understand that the further back you go, the more questionable things can become.

Roughly 10% of the men in the historic Mongolian Empire are a direct descendant of Genghis Khan. That works out to be roughly 1 in every 200 men in the world.
