I'm sure not an expert but would seem mesovortex or something. All the worst seems to be on the west side of the storm from everything I've seen.
When I was following last night, Whiting Field NAS -- between Milton and Jay -- reported wind gusts at 100 mph.
Hard to get news right now from that area but I spoke to an uncle in Brewton -- about 20 or so miles north of Jay -- and he's the one that had the same report as the poster here about tons of trees and power lines down around him .

Glad to hear that. Must have been a hard call to have not being with him.

I think this was just wind action as the core collapsed. Lots of lightning (convection) on that side, allowing the high winds aloft to come down.

Yeah, this wasn't really a Cat 3
Was a 2 at landfall.
And remember, these wind speeds are for over open water. You almost never see that category on land (but youll often see gusts to that category).
Escambia Co got rocked last night. Im sure its similar to Ivan in trees down inland. Just not the catastrophe on Pensacola Beach that Ivan brought.

Seagrove appears to be fine (no damage by Eastern Lake) but power is out in some places.

Yeah, people north of Pensacola in Escambia County FL and Escambia County AL are comparing it to Hurricane Ivan in terms of the sheer amount of downed trees.
Was hoping Ivan had cleared enough trees out around many houses that it wouldn't be so bad.
I was there during Ivan and you seriously could not tell where many roads were under all the downed pine trees.

Was it ever decided how Oyster has to fulfill the bet? Do I have to have been in Destin or just posted on the first page to be eligible?

Im out in Jay and it was horrible.
Fox weather gave a chart of places with the highest gusts. Jay was at the top, at 118 mph. Good luck up there.

The Florida DOT says damage assessment teams have been "working throughout the early hours to coordinate and provide locations to crews for rapid debris removal to open roads as quickly as possible."

We stayed in GULF Breeze proper last night with friends and lost our generator as well. I was told this morning that there was a leak in the gas pipe last night so they turned everything off out of expediency. This morning generators are back up and running normallyagain here. As far as damage goes, there are the expected trees down - one hit the neighbors house but thankfully didn’t appear to go through their roof. Another one fell between the neighbor’s driveway and our driveway - also thankfully missing everything. The rest is mainly just a lot of cleanup and branches and people’s roofing shingles. Our own house is on the water near the zoo. Talked to our neighbor there this morning who stayed across the street . He said our place looks intact and amazingly our dock, as well as all of the neighbor’s docks, are still intact, which we did not expect…. That NEVER happens.! When hurricane Sally hit Gulf Shores we lost our dock as did a number of others and we got 3 feet of water and the lower part of the house , so I’m thinking the water situation was not too bad this time, being that we were more on the west side of the storm. The neighbor did say that there are number of trees are down in the road, but a crew came by early this morning to clear them. And obviously there is no electricity. But from his report, it sounds like we fared better than we have in the past… however, don’t know for sure until we get personally get to eyeball the property ourselves.

I thought they cut the power in the direct path of the storm to mitigate live wires and fire risk. When the storm passes they assess damage and cut it on as they can.

During a press conference this morning, DeSantis provided an update on the aftermath of Isaias making landfall, revealing that hundreds of thousands are without power.
“448,000 accounts are without power, including 323,000 customers from FPL and 110,000 from various co-ops throughout northwest Florida,” DeSantis said.

Ron DeSantis Begs Floridians to Evacuate as Hurricane Isaias Strengthens in Gulf of America
quote:https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2026/10/ron-desantis-begs-floridians-evacuate-hurricane-isaias-strengthens/
The state has prepared millions of meals, 1,000 generators, 500,000 gallons of gasoline, one million gallons of diesel, and over one million bottles of water in anticipation of the storm.
The Associated Press reported that Isaias has “strengthened into a major hurricane and carved a path toward the Alabama-Florida line.”
It was expected to hit land by Friday evening.
The National Hurricane Center’s website described storm surge as posing a “danger of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline.”
It also added that the “combination of a dangerous storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline.”
Additionally, the hurricane is expected to disrupt U.S. crude oil production, according to CNBC.
It could end up limiting 2 percent of the country’s oil refining capabilities, with fuel markets already in turmoil over the Iran War.
The hurricane did, however, seem to be heading away from the U.S. refining region in southern Louisiana.
