The other issue with house generators is natural gas supply. The utility distribution networks weren't built with whole house gas generators in mind. In many situations there is not gas flowing to adequately supply all of the generators running in a given neighborhood, as the utility never modeled the network to meet that spike.

That was a big problem after Ida and the snow storm. Lots of gas infrastructure was only based on heating a home, heating water, and cooking. Whole Home generators on natty gas was still a pipe dream.

Plus, did the county or city require permits and track how many natty generators were installed. That too was an issue pre-Ida. Gas companies did not know how much gas was needed to supply all the generators and keep up with infrastructure and place larger gas distribution lines. That is why one company I know now has the option of a buried natty gas tank.

Gas was turned off in Gulf Breeze disabling everyone’s generators last night. It’s back on now, and we’re on generator power. No updates on when to expect power to come back on here.

If you really want self sufficient standby power, you need diesel and bulk storage on site.

Anyone know how Topsail Preserve State Park came out? A non-reading TD reader friend is supposed to camp there on Tuesday.

I got lucky in that regards but there was a lot of people doing their best to run their generators into the ground. People cycling them off would have helped out

Reports from neighbors are saying the Miramar beach area made it out with minimal damage from what they could see. Whales tails is still standing so shitty frozen seafood will still be served.

Apparently Ft Walton took a beating. Homes flooded and cars under water.

Im out in Jay and it was horrible. Pines are down everywhere, so are power lines, the roads are filled with trees. Ive got a long day ahead of me.

Really sorry to hear.
Hearing similar from family just north of Jay in Escambia Co, Alabama. They're not able to see much so far due to blocked roads but comparing the trees and power lines down to Hurricane Ivan.

Waiting to hear from others but seems T Mobile service may be out.

Mayor of Brewton Al said they may be looking at 3 weeks or so for power restoration there.

Can’t believe that place is still open.

Looks like the area to the west between Pensacola and Destin got the worst of it.

Looks like it'll be in Canada by gametime with how swiftly it's booking.

Heard Tuscaloosa faired well. REC doing work as always.
