As I get older, I start to see his many faults and began to realize how much respect I've lost for him.

Part of becoming an adult is realizing your parents aren't perfect and that it's okay to be disappointed with them in some ways.

My father is a very modest man, luckily.

Arrogant and hypocritcal fathers are not good for a childs morale.

Maybe he wants you to have a better life than what he had? He’s human and made mistakes. There’s no instruction manual on parenting.

Dad is a flaming Obama loving liberal unless it comes to his property. It makes for some bizarre conversations.

Bullchit there's not.

I've got one one the way.

I've waded through half a dozen of them.

Still don't know my arse from a stump in the ground.

Just about every good father is a hypocrite. Do you want your kid to make the same mistakes you did, just so you can brag about not being a hypocrite?

Sounds like your dad raised a kid who grew up to think for himself and make his own decisions. Probably just how he wanted it. Ur dad made some hypocritical errors along the way through no fault of his own, but bc he’s human and wanted ur path to be better than his. Same thing I want for my kids. I tell my kids hypocritical things daily when dealing with things like school and chores. Stuff I didn’t care about that I wish I would have...

Every dad is a hypocrite, and when you are a father you will be one as well.

We tell the kids to avoid areas that cause us to struggle because we know how difficult weaknesses in that area will be.

So if I know procrastination causes me trouble and I see it in my kids I get onto them about it.

Walt, forgive me reading too far into your line...

OP, how about you have an adult conversation? Do not “confront” him, just talk to him. That is what adults (should) do. No emotion, no feelings, just listen and learn. I would be willing to bet that he has a legit reason for whatever actions you are referring to. You may not agree with him or his reasoning, but you can learn from his point of view.

Life is too short to start a fight over something like this.

Yeah. I always fuss my son for doing things I know hes picking up from me. I try to always talk to him after and let him know that sometimes daddy screws up and does stuff like he was doing, but it's not good and I want him to be better than me when he grows up. I recognize my faults. Doesnt mean I accept them in my son.

I bet your dad is ashamed to call you his son you judgemental turd burglar. If your father stuck around and took care of you consider yourself lucky and hug his neck. You ungrateful pissant. Your dad should have beat you more. Do us all a favor and don’t procreate.

As if you don't have many of the same and even more faults. Dude you are a fricking arse hole. It isn't that our parents are hypocrites or exceptionally flawed. it is that as kids we saw our parents are these perfect people who could do no wrong in our eyes. When in reality, yes your Dad may drink a little too much. he might have kissed a arse or two during his career to keep a smooth work environment in place. Your mom might have a potty mouth and like to frick and isn't that angelic figure you knew as a little kid. Our parents are human just like we are and with that come their flaws. Doesn't mean you shouldn't respect them.
