My dad hates Tiger Woods and told me he shouldn’t have custody of his kids because he was a philanderer.

He would fit right in on the msb and poli board

My dad basically cut off all contact with me when I moved out, after being largely absent most of my childhood. Hypocrisy is the least of his faults.

I am a dad. And I am a hypocrite. It’s my job to keep my kids from doing the dumb shite I do/did.

Don't worry, he has probably felt the same with you.

Tell me what makes him a hypocrite? I think we often think of things as hypocritical that are actually just people changing for the better.

For instance, a person who starts out as a racist but realizes their flaws and makes progress away from that line of thinking is not a hypocrite because they now condemn racism. I would also say that a person who urges you not to do things that they do because they wish for you to avoid the consequences or repercussions of those behaviors isn't truly hypocritical, in my opinion. It is only when they hold someone or people in general to a standard to which you do not conform.

I lost my dad when I was 9, I would have loved to have him around, hypocrite or not, for a lot longer. I'm 57 and still miss him everyday.

Also, you should not judge anyone past behavior solely on the basis of modern social standards.

Learn to accept your dad and carry on a relationship. Respect him for the things he did right. If you're able to come these conclusions about your dad, perhaps it's because he allowed you to think for yourself, maybe even encouraged it. If so, be thankful for that, use that as your starting point to forging an adult relationship with him.

Assuming you're not just trolling, of course.

Nah - my dad is an awesome guy. I don't know what my life would have turned out like if he wasn't there to pick me up and point me back in the right direction when I was younger.

Experience gives you different perspective. Every Parent wants their kids to be/do better than they did.

I can never be the person my adoring young children believe me to be.

And that goes for almost everyone.

It’s the old adage: do as I say, not as I do.

I've learned to get over a lot of my dad's faults. No he's not perfect, but he worked hard when I was a kid to ensure we had food on the table and a roof over our heads. And for that, I will always be grateful because I understand now how hard that can be.

My dad is a good man who has worked tirelessly over the last 40+ years to provide for his family. I respect him more than most. But he is human. He is my dad, and I’m proud of that and feel lucky that he can be selfless and put his family first. He’s not perfect, and we don’t always see eye to eye. Sometimes I wonder where he gets his views from, but I don’t walk in his shoes. His experiences are different from mine. We even argue over politics. Neither one of use are libtards, but we have our differences. Part of growing up is learning that your parents are not infallible or impervious to mistakes. But by God, frick with with my parents, and I’ll rock your shite.
