Is Writing Thank You Cards Becoming A Lost Art?

This year I received a graduation card from someone who included a thank you letter in the envelop. It read "your gift will be much appreciated". I have never talked to the kid in my life, I know his dad, but have never met his family.
It was the first time I have ever received a thank you letter with an invite, but its more than the majority of people send over the past several years. I remember not wanting to write thank you letter, but my parents rode my arse until I finally did it. There was a point when I would get a thank you letter from everyone, but its not the case anymore. I'd say I might get 1 thank you letter for every 3 graduation cards. Do parents not make their kids write them?

I'm seeing handwritten letters making a comeback. Nearly every mom and pop bookstore I've been in lately has a 'write someone a letter' station with some stationary

It's now thank you text.
Get with the times grandpa!

I welcome the downfall of the handwritten thank you note. Makes it that much more appreciated, since I still write them.

Just don't see it as that big a deal.
Everyone feels the same about this stuff. Why torture ourselves?

We got 7 graduation announcements last year. Sent gifts for all of them and got 2 thank you letters.

I still write them post job interviews mainly when interviewing with "old school" types. Thank you cards for wedding and grad gifts are essential in my opinion. Birthday and Christmas....typically a text or in person thank you the next time suffices.

This thread makes me feel much better about not writing my thank you letters

I've gotten around to making my own personalized Christmas cards. They are much better than a cheesy card that says "merry christmas"

My son is in the process of writing his thank you notes ... I told him he shouldn't cash a single check until the thank you notes are written.
There are a couple of people that he saw in person and said thank you but I'm still asking/encouraging that he write a thank you. It's polite!

I told my kids that if they couldn't take the time to write a thank you, they didn't deserve the gift.

Just to know the person actually received our gift is reason enough.
