It's not an art, it is simple etiquette.

I had several friends that had kids graduating High School this year,so we sent them small monetary gifts. All but 2 of them have sent Thank You Cards already.

We still get thank-you cards from a couple of the grandkids. DIL makes sure that it happens.

My grandmother expects a thank you note for everything. A simple phone call isn't enough. I could buy her a mansion as a thank you but it wouldn't mean anything. She has to get a card. Old people are weird. In 50 years thank you cards won't exist.

At that age, basic courtesy is enough. They have a lot of stuff going on.

They know, they will have plenty of times to talk to me in person.

I, as well as my wife and children all write notes and not just thank you. Get well, enjoyed seeing you, congratulations, condolences or just haven't seen you hope all is well notes too.

My siblings, parents and in laws all do as well. I got a nice card from my father in law today telling me about the rain in Austin and trying to find out when Dale Watson is in town so we can visit.

I suggest to all, order a box of nice personalized stationary, very affordable online, a nice pen, some good stamps and get back to it.

It depends on the setting. Sometimes thank you notes are cookie cutter and kiss-arse. But if you send a proper one under the right circumstances you can really make a good impression.

whats a thank you card? The only cards I buy are for my mom on her birthday and mothers day. Aside from that, I am not wasting money on something a person reads (and most of the time they just glance at it) once.

My kids get beat senseless if they don't write a nice thank you card. That's low class.

I understand what you are saying, knowing people that know how to express themselves in writing and language, that's certainly where you want to be in life.

I also like people that know me well enough, where a nod and a handshake,or a tap on the shoulder is enough, formality thrown out the window, because I already know their meaning.

I told him he shouldn't cash a single check until the thank you notes are written.

My parents were seriously going to send back my graduation money gifts if I didn't write thank-you's. I got my arse in gear writing them real quick.
