Is today's youth "Street Smart"?

I wonder this because I recently watched a youtube video where a young man was glued to his cell phone and walked right into a elevator where 3 thugs were waiting and as the elevator doors closed I think he realized oh shite. Long story short he got his arse beat and robbed but I took this personally because I have 3 kids ranging from 18 to 22 years old. I asked my youngest when I got home does he understand what I met by "street smarts"? He said yes but wasn't that positive about it. I gave him examples like you get low on gas and you need gas do you think about sketchy areas before you pull into get gas? Well my daughter is going to college in another state starting in fall so I pulled them all into the living room and had this discussion. Sorry for the long post but I honestly think that kids today are so stuck into there phones that "street smarts" has gone out the window. Thoughts and I expect about 5 or more tldnr?

A link to that video would be far more interesting than your wall of text.

I’m not a youth but I do dumb shite on my phone all the time. I know it’s dumb but when I’m cooling out a horse I’ll get on it. One spook while I’m distracted and my dumbass is on the ground.

Was he supposed to know these people were going to rob him? Was he just supposed to say "nah I'll wait?" Should the youths know not to get on elevators with strangers?
So many questions to your logic here.

In general, they are more naive. Some of streets smarts comes from personal experience or witnessing something. Occasionally you’ll learn it from a friend who had the experience or some other story passed down.
It’s like the guy on bourbon street. “I bet you $5 I know where you go your shoes?” There’s a sucker born each day. Thankfully we get to learn from their mistakes.

Let me put it to you bluntly if I am looking up and I see 3 big black guys waiting in a elevator I make a detour.
Not trying to sound racist but I don't get on it.

Yep I was in the military and being in tijuana Mexico my street smarts was at maximum level. I guess bourbon st could do that to you late at night also.

women have never had "street smarts" - unless they are strippers or hookers. Normal women never descend into the levels of debauchery of the typical man that are required to attain "street smarts".

Got to keep your head on a swivel. Hard to have situational awareness when shitposting is more important than life.

Obviously I am older but even driving around my neighborhood I see kids riding bikes and doing shite on their phone. My wife and I saw this yesterday and we said I bet she is posting on instagram letting everyone know she is going on a bike ride. Nevermind I might get run over by a car while I am posting.
