Last week the boss dropped on me and put me on blast that no one was to show up at work before the official start time (7AM). Here I was thinking that I was doing something productive for the company only to get a boot to the face
Only reason I can think of is if you are leaving an hour earlier than everyone else because you came in earlier.
That makes it an issue in some workplaces.

Does anyone else feel targeted by this thread?

Sounds like you’re not mad at the fact that she wasn’t on time, but that she cancelled all together.
In this specific instance, yes. But it made me think about all my other peers where it's constantly a struggle to plan things and have them be on time for them. I can see the look on their faces when we make plans, especially when it is something time sensitive (like a ticket to an event), and I can just see their eyes glaze over with "oh man I actually have to be somewhere at a specific time, maybe even before noon?". And these are working professionals.
And not even just the timeliness, the ability to commit to anything. It always seems like they never want to go all in because god forbid something slightly more enticing comes along at the same time they'd rather do. Just feels like it's a constant with both my peer group and my fiancé's. I notice it too with my brother/his friends. That's what makes me generalize and think this is an issue with my "generation".

I work with many Mexican people, and it just blows my mind how they admittedly say they will be late to everything because it’s their culture.
One of them told our boss to send him a meeting invite for 30 minutes earlier so he will be there on time. Like WTF dude

I've seen people wearing hoodies on zoom calls. I don't really care but I don't get it.
For me, it really depends on who the call is with. If I'm meeting with a co-worker who I have a casual relationship with, I will join a call wearing a ball cap and t shirt. If I'm meeting with a client, I'm at least going to wear a collared shirt and fix my hair. If I'm meeting with a prospective client, usually coat and tie, but those are typically in-person meetings.

I do my job and do my job very well, better than most. I also have a life outside of work. I have a wife and kids who also demand my time, and are far more important than whatever bullshite meeting that could have been sent in an email.

I'm always on time if I say I'm going somewhere, but I do sometimes hold off on committing to things if it's not something I really want to do. We're pretty busy people (socially), and sometimes things come up spur of the moment. If I get invited to something that isn't a priority, I may hold off on giving an answer because honestly something that I'd rather do is very likely to come up. That may make me an a-hole, but it is what it is
