Is this the only Virus that face masks prevent? I always remember from numerous outbreaks that this does no good. Until now, American doctors insisted that when the Chinamen used facemasks during past viral outbreaks that it did no good, whatsoever.

I don't understand why simple scientific concepts are so hard for college grads to understand.

A mask does not work. However, if both people are wearing mask it decreases the odds of getting sick. If only one person is wearing mask then it doesn’t really help. This is for most masks being worn. N95 mask work 100%

They help prevent the spread if you have it and wear a face mask.

They don't do much good if you have it on, but an infected person doesn't.

That is according to research. I believe it has been proven for other viruses. I could be wrong though.

So when certain people say they don't work.. yeah, they don't work if the carrier isn't wearing one.

It's best for people displaying symptoms to wear masks. The whole point was to prevent the spread. If you are healthy and around other healthy people then neither of you need it.

“Mask wearing does not completely prevent transmission and cannot be relied on as a sole measure,” he said, “but, combined with other social distancing measures, should form part of the ‘exit strategy’ from lockdown”.

They didn't work for corona. Then, they did work for corona. Now, they may work for corona.

Based on your word choices I am certain that you know what you're talking about.

The size of a virus is >> less than anything a dust mask will catch, so wearing a dust mask is USUALLY doing something just to be doing something.

However, if you are close to me, and you sneeze, I hope you are wearing a very efficient particle and aerosol mask. Even a dust mask capable of catching brick bats and 2x4s might help in this case.

I upvoted for the proper use of brick bat. It reminded me of my Pops.

Haven't tried very hard, but I haven't found a good particle size study on N95 masks.

I've got a lot more experience w/ engine air filters than medical, but you only use the proverbial "brick bat and 2x4 filter" on an engine. Insufficient air flow for any engine efficiency.

Your Pops may well be in my age bracket; once upon a time, it was an off-used phrase.
