Who gets to decided this?

Yes, you comply and fight about it on the back end. Why people don't get this is beyond me. You're going to fight with the cop on the street instead.

Idiot.

I'm the idiot for knowing my rights in this country. This is the problem we have now. We are letting them get away with things like this. It only emboldens them to push the envelope further because they know they won't be held accountable.

I want real change not acceptance and a it is what it is attitude screw that. Cops do not get to decide the law. If they are breaking it they need to go plain and simple.

- Lawsuits for brutality are paid by police unions and/or police pensions. Taxpayers are no longer responsible for paying for dirty cops. This discourages the current environment where cops cover other cops.
If you think they cover for each other now, wait until they realize "if I turn an officer in, the lawsuit payment comes out MY pension?";lol;

ETA: forgot to downvote you.

99.9% of your issues are solved if you get rid of public sector unions, and in this case, the police unions.

100% of the issues are solved if thugs stop breaking the law.

Mental health response teams for people who are having mental health episodes.

How in the hell do we expect high school educated police to know this? Are you serious?

Things like this have been implemented in some major metropolitan departments and have had amazing success. The Miami PD is one that was slow to come onboard with it but immediately saw a major impact on de-escalations and violence during arrest and detainment.

It would be a small group, similar to SWAT that would be called out when the suspect was having an obvious mental episode. Read the book Crazy and it will tell you a lot more about what can be done on that front. Great read.

What? When you arrest people who don't want to be arrested you're at risk for all manner of complaints.

- No more military-style battle uniforms other than specific teams like SWAT. There's no need for police to dress like military...it can lead to them believing they're military.

I've told this to Jeff LeDuff and Murphy Paul
