definitely not rich

Dad was a fireman and had a carpentry business. Mom was a SAHM. Firemen get lots of time off. My Dad would save it for the summer.

And we would camp half the time, stay at budget hotels between destinations, or stay at modest cabins.

We also never ate out. Ate ham and cheese sandwiches.

You guys lack creativity sometimes.

Apparently if you're in Central or S. America road trips to the USA are very popular.

We do them via "airplane" all the time. For example, we flew to Salt Lake City this summer, rented a car and drove about 1000 miles around Yellowstone. Its been a long time since we drove over 1000 miles in our vehicle from our home.

We took a long road trip nearly ever summer, as far north as Northern Canada and as far south as the Mexican border. Saw lots of historical sites and natural wonders, were at each other's throats many times. On a couple of trips someone got sick or had an accident and saw the inside of the ER. Good times.

I don’t like my kids enough to spend 10 days in a vehicle with them.

To me it would be more enjoyable to do with a couple friends or your wife only. No kids.

Get to enjoy things more and participate in more adult activities

It's awesome with kids. Like reliving childhood all over again.

I’m looking forward to my boys being old enough to read maps. I want to take a week off, hand them a map and instructions and just let us navigate to wherever.

Getting there is half the fun!

Driving to the game with my two sons, and taking our time coming home for the week after. Going to see what we want to see, when we want to. Could be great, could feel disastrous at some points. Either way, real memories will be had.

We do road trips frequently

Allows us to see America to and from our ultimate destination.

We will fly when our vacation is dedicated to a longer stay in one location.

Currently mapping out about a 7000 Mile Road Trip on an atlas. Word of advice even if you have the newest navigation system or phone buy an atlas.

I typically take mine in the dead of winter. If I decide to sleep in the car one night to save a couple hundred bucks I can do it. We're going do like a Yellowstone ski tour or some shite

We did a few with our son. We flew to Salt Lake City and rented a Tahoe and hit the road up to Yellowstone and all over that part of the West. We had a great time doing it. Very memorable times.

I don't really see the appeal. We did a ton of long drive trips when I was a kid and while it was nice that we were able to have vacations, we wasted so much time driving. It also kept me from seeing your typical destination cities until I was older.

A friend of mine used his limited time off last year to spend 2 days driving out of state, spend 2 days there, and spend 2 days driving home. Not even a road trip type of deal with lots of stops. I can't imagine wasting a week of vacation to drive most of the time.

I'd do a road trip with my SO or by myself if I know I had plenty time off to enjoy it.

I love a good road trip. A family of six did this multiple times. I would always ride in the way back and lay on top of the luggage.

Seems like not wearing seat belts is frowned upon today.

Not understanding the comments about the electronics... I would want a kid to have a game boy or whatever they are called today. I stop playing that shite when I was 19 or so.
