I would argue the electronics make a road trip bearable. The dvd for the little one and iPad for the older one and they are occupied for the long stretches

My wife and I brought my 12 and 6 years old kids on a 10 day, 4K mile trip last year. Surprised they didn’t kill each other. Hit 4 National parks while cruising through Mesa Verde, telluride, arches, canonlands, white water rafting, mt Evans and Rocky Mountain National Park. Everyone enjoyed the trip

Nothing about that sounds appealing.

Sitting on your arse for 14 hours is not good.
Sitting on your arse for 14 hours with a 5 year old is not good.
If your 5 year old can sit still for 14 hours then something is fricking wrong with him/her.

Take the US highway, not the Interstate.

At least once a year we do a long road trip ala CO, DC, etc.

In November we participated in a Boy Scout backpacking trip in the Chisos mountains. Place is incredible!

Taking the kids to Gatlinburg from DFW next June for a big family vacation. It will be the first long road trip with the youngsters (5 & 8). We went to New Orleans a couple of years ago and that was fun. Since they are getting bigger, I hope we can do more road trips and travel.

I grew up poor and the farthest we ever went was the Florida panhandle (from Baton Rouge).

Nothing like killing a six pack, cruise set, and radio jamming. I love road trips. Only time I drink anymore.

It wasn’t exactly great. But I don’t mind driving long distance.

And we left super early that morning, so the 5 year old slept for half of it.

And then we would stop every 1.5 to 2 hours to let her run around and whatnot.

Long days are kinda part of road trips

Best time I had with my kids was a 4K mile road trip. Stopping in off the wall places, stuff like that

It was that way as a kid although being in an RV made it easy.

When stuck in the Buick doing 20 hours it wasn't so much. All part of it when you have no say so
