Jersey is a shithole, but you can find ways to entertain yourself there. There are places where that isn’t an option:

Every state has its slums. Newark and Camden are two of the worst in the nation. There’s plenty of really nice places. Check out Montclair, Summit, and Princeton.
Central Jersey has some of the nicest private schools in the world. Not to be confused with a parochial school (religious schools that held to lower standards) that populate all of Louisiana. Petty Prep, Lawrencville Prep, The Hun School, Princeton Day School, etc
I used to get grief because I said the food in NJ was superior to Baton Rouge food. Sure I could find crawfish, gumbo, jambalaya, and what not there but I couldn’t find really good pizza, and sandwiches in many places.
Not to mention in NJ I could go to an Indian restaurant, a Portuguese restaurant, a Russian restaursnt, etc all the time. Louisiana didn’t have anything like that in variety. It was basically one kind of food everywhere.
Louisiana people would always say but NJ doesn’t have seafood, as if the state was located just west Ohio.

I hear Camden, NJ is the butthole of the U.S.

Newark, Jersey City and Trenton are garbage. But the rest of NJ is surprisingly nice. The fact that people living in La would talk down on Jersey is mind blowing.

My uncle graduated from there and I went to a 6 week summer program when I was in high school. The place is incredible.

The Hun School,
Had a cousin and good friend graduate from Hun. Beautiful place.
New jersey is a really nice place once the urban decay of the cities is left behind.

I really like Morristown. Have spent several weeks there for work the last several years. And easy to get into NYC unless it’s rush hour.
Newark ain’t good. Spent a week there a couple of years ago in January. It was rough.

Camden, Newark, Jersey City are all bad. But man, are there some wonderful places up there. Always loved going to Princeton and central Jersey. Family owns a house on West Cape May which is a lovely Victorian beach town, and the drive through farm country is gorgeous.

And it is bullshite to judge a state by one (albeit large city). Hell, I graduated from LSU and Baton Rouge is one of the biggest shite holes in the country.
Had I not visited friends and family in Lafayette and New Orleans before college and experienced nice parts of Louisiana I probably would have left after Spring Orientation.

I am stuck here for work this week, and it's awful. Hair gel, tribal band tattoos, steroids and bad spray tan are on every douche bag in this fricking city.
Sounds like New Iberia or Westwego

The city is unkept, the weeds are overgrown everywhere, and the whole city smells like shite. The food is bland and shitty. The traffic sucks and the real estate is overpriced and that's the nice areas. NJ hoods are as bad as anywhere else.
Sounds like anywhere in Louisiana minus the food.
My advice for a Tourista visting New Jersey to take one of those Industrial Plant Tourist Tours.

I grew up in Bridgewater and was 30 miles west of NYC and 30 miles east of the mountains.
While Louisiana food is amazing, there is something about the food up there, especially the Italian food and pizza. Can’t find the same pizza anywhere. Just like you can’t find good cajun food outside of Louisiana.
