The fact that you believe you can tell whether a cougar or jaguar is melanistic by the sound it makes is all one needs to see.
Fact: there has not been a single vehicle collision with a mountain lion in Alabama for over 60 years. There has not been a single confirmed photo, trail camera, roadkill, hunter harvest or any other evidence of a single one.

Now, keep in mind that's simply a mountain lion. The specific mountain lion you and the derps claim to have seen and heard
has a trait which only occurs in 6% of all mountain lions. So you'll have to understand if people are hesitant to believe you've encountered one (or... Three) of the minute fraction of a species which hasn't been seen in your state in over half a century (note this is a state where rednecks won't hesitate to blast a bald eagle out of the sky, yet not one has been killed) either by photo or in your physical presence.

This is the key to all the rest. The "people" who believe this are young and impressionable and will believe almost anything their parents tell them. This one is so obviously bogus that they eventually realize/accept that it isn't true. Yet they still believe 90% of the other bullshite that their parents tell them.

He carved them up with a knife, and cut himself in the process. The cops blood trailed him back to his house. A blood trail that went from the scene, to his car, and then back to his house and into his washing machine. A blood trail that had his blood, and both the victim's blood. Confirmed by DNA.
Then, a jury with a median IQ of about 82 let him walk.
That's what happened.
