Is there any recourse for a contractor overcharging for work done for my mother?

I am currently trying to sort this out but from the work this guy did (bathroom renovation) it is looking like my mom got really overcharged here.
I asked for a detailed invoice from him to see the work done and it's extremely vague and no prices by any of the tasks or list of items purchased or the warranties for these items.
Is there anything I can actually do about this or is it just my mom got ripped off and nothing I can do about it type thing?
It's not like my mom is broke or anything...but just wanting to see if anyone had any experience with this.
I should note that the work done is actually good. It's just that what she was charged is way too much for what she got.

Is the contract fixed price, cost reimbursable, or time and materials?

What are you basing your prices on?

If it's what she agreed to ain't shite you can do.

shite in his tool bag.

You can always pay what you want and let him sue you for the difference.

Did he give her an estimate before he started the work? Did he do everything stated in the estimate? If so, stop scrutinizing his prices and understand that quality work costs good money.

What was actually done and how much is he charging?
Also it’s simple- is there a contract in place or was the amount agreed upon?
I built a house for a woman once and she said I built it incorrectly because her energy bills were so high. It was a 2 story house in Belle Chasse, La and her electric bill in August was $102
“A lot” to someone is not “a lot” to someone else

Good and cheap are two words that don't go together.
What do you think the charges should have been?

This. I mean he sure didn’t show up and just start working, didn’t they agree on a price before hand? If she agreed on the estimate but it was just high nothing you can do. I’m assuming she paid him completely?

You’re expecting a detailed time sheet and receipts for his work and warranties on all the items in a remodeled bathroom?
By the way check your states contractor laws. Almost all have a 1 year workmanship warranty

There’s a world of difference between prices for a lousy, untrustworthy contractor and a competent, reliable one. Maybe your mom knows this and didn’t want to waste her time and money with a lousy one.

Basing it on the average cost of a bathroom remodel per square foot (google essentially).
She was charged what would break down to $350 dollars a square foot for a small bathroom remodel.
Yes I know she was dumb to pay this, and I wish she would have notified me before cutting the check.

Probably around 6-8k. She was charged $11,800.

Just dont pay him.
Simple enough. Pay him what you want and tell him to sue you. If he's overcharging, he wont.
*They have cracked down on these contractors that screwed people after the flood.

There is your first problem.

The initial quote was a little over 5,000 and then when the work was completed he said it turned out to be 11,800. And my mom paid it for some reason.

My company installs a lot of glass Shower Enclosures and Mirrors for bathrooms. Was any of that work done? If so, I could help you out with those costs

If you know so much about construction, why didn’t you redo your mom’s bathroom yourself?
