Yeah I would not be bragging much about ole JP. Schools there are only slightly better than NOLA. Some significant crime areas starting to develop in Metairie. Housing in Metairie is either way too expensive for a young family or you living in a 50 year old house that hasn't been painted or had ANYTHING replaced in 50 years.
Kenner is becoming similar to El Paso. Harahan has and always will suck. River Ridge is blah. And the wank is still the wank.

This is what created the suburbs and also why metro areas are often 3 or 4x the city population

As someone who has lived here since 2003, I tend to agree with a lot of the sentiments posted here. Katrina came so close to turning things around. From 2009-2014 when the FEMA and Hollywood money was rolling in and the crime was at a reasonable level, there was a sentiment in the city that we were progressing to a bright future. The people moving into the neighborhood around me were young professionals and young families, attracted to the city's charm and the economic revival here, hoping to make a difference and be a part of it.
Sometime around the early part of of 2016 that sentiment was replaced with a growing air of pessimism. Hope was replaced by increasing crime, infreatructure issues and political shenanigans. My career is here, my family is here and my friends are here, but it's not the same as it was. Then again, meybe I just read too much tigerdroppings.

This is most likely the truth.
The only times I have heard the monuments mentioned in the last month has been from this board.

Aww, that's cute...you think the grass is greener in Montana. Let me guess, you've been to big sky once or twice

I feel a lot of what you are saying
But I think it's mostly this... actually I'm pretty positive
Posters from Loranger, Ethel, Lake Arthur, and Many would lead you to believe they are dodging bullets and blowing out tires on pot holes daily in Nola.

The OT is full of white guys that piss their pants when a black guy says hi to them

I just have no idea what Nola has for my future
Good schools for my son? Hell no
Affordable housing? Hell no
Good job market for growth? Hell no
Nice safe areas for my son? Hell no
A population that cares for each other? Hell no
I mean besides "culture" and "charm", it sucks dick. As I turn 30 I wonder what the hell am I doing here

Very true unless you are in a few markets. Big area that isn't easy to grow.

People in this city love each other. I'm not ignoring crime and shite, but this city is friendly.

Friendly advice from someone a bit older finally on his way out after feeling the same as you do at the same age. That feeling is not going to go away. New Orleans is not made for everyone.

Must people consider Lusher, Ben Franklin, Alice Harte, Edna Karr, Hynes, etc. to be good schools.

I disagree. Are there assholes? Yep. But birds of a feather...
My neighbors watch my house and even get packages for me if they are left on the pitch when I'm at work. My UPS guy knows my schedule and waits for me to be off work before delivering my packages. Those are small acts that show consideration and caring.
My biggest pet peeve is the pervasive litter.

The historical North side of ST Louis is gone thanks to decades of democratic rule. It's very sad.
We have surrendered our great American cities in the name of diversity.

Didn't we have this exact same thread like last month?

There is an unhealthy obsession from those outside of NOLA to remind everyone how terrible it is.
Then say they will never return.
Then make sure their news notifications are set to receive all news about the city.

Baton Rouge will sadly be in this conversation in a few years
