Is there an end or edge to intergalactic space?

Every galaxy is receding from every other galaxy (with a few minor exceptions from local mergers, but that’s the subject of another article). But there's got to be a limit, right? It's not like the universe is infinite, right?

I'm sure ants on earth wonder the same things. We'll never know what we are really a part of. It's all in the perspective of the wonderer and their lack of knowledge about life other than what they can relate to.

Pretty much this, imagine the surface of a balloon with magic marker dots on it. As time moves forward, blow more air into the balloon. All the dots move away from one another.

On another note how can the universe actually end? or... How can it keep going? Neither of these questions can be answered....

It's like the jail in the movie THX 1138. The jail is a massive room (let's say the size of Houston) that has white walls, a white ceiling, and white floor. In the middle of the room is a bench where a robotic guard tells you to sit. When you look off in the distance, the ceiling and floor appear to converge, leaving you with no sense of direction. Every day the robot, which has something like GPS, comes to the bench to bring you food and water. If you leave the bench to try and get out, you could wander in the white expanse of the room until you starve to death. It's like that, except the walls, floor and ceiling are black, and the room is a gazillion times bigger than Houston. Now....take your meds.

Here's a question for anyone who knows: Why is the observable universe limited to that circle? Is it because the universe may be a sphere so we can only see to the horizon? Or maybe something to do with the amount of time it takes light to get here? Or something else altogether?
