People who were here are gone forever, for different reasons.

I think there is absolutely an undercurrent of melancholy if you have lived long enough to have lost things and people you loved. So yes...

People remember the best Christmas times from when they were kids. Until you have kids Christmas loses a lot of the magic.

This...I lost both parents within 13 months not long ago. My mom was happiest cooking and singing along w christmas songs this time of year. I get choked up when Im cooking listening to those songs cause damn it really makes me miss her and dad.

I feel you. This song pretty much sums it up for me.

I do not wish to be questioned by authorities following whatever strange act you are planning to do, and therefore I refrain from commenting.

absolutely....when I talk to my old roommate from Wiley Barracks, he talks about checking the Wiley cam and thinking about the old days back in New Ulm....

Christmas isn't a particularly happy time for me either, always preferred New Year's

My childhood had a lot of emotional and verbal abuse. Yet...during Christmas I was free to enjoy the magic of the Christmas lights and a beautiful decorated tree. My stepsister and I always got along better during the Christmas break. My heart would beat so fast Christmas Eve night: filled with excitement and anticipation. The family was a family on Christmas Day.

During college..something changed about Christmas. I wasn't really happy coming home during the Christmas break. I feel into depression after Christmas Day. It wasn't exciting any more. I guess the magic was gone. My dad and I did not see eye to eye on some anxiety issues that I was experiencing. My mom wasn't supportive. I only felt like my girlfriend cared and understood. I missed her during the breaks.

My dad died two years ago and my brother died in January. I see Christmas as a day and not as an exciting event. I just want to get through it and move on. I still have my stepmom and sister. I often cry about my mom and dad who are no longer alive. Christmas is suppose to be magical....

Man, that's a tough story. Hopefully, when you have a kid or two, you will be able to get that magic back through them. It's always great watching them experience everything that comes with Christmas.
