Is there a Southern Miss pipeline in NOLA?

I'm passing through Hattiesburg and notice a bunch of NOLA brake tags on windshields. I wonder if USM is a commuter school? I mean, NO isn't a 30 minute drive to H-burg. That commute would get old fast.

USM waives out-of-state tuition for some Louisiana students who are studying in certain disciplines.

A lot of NOLA people go to Southern. Half of my sister's sorority sisters were from there (sorry, no pics). Mostly from Uptown.

The Academic Common Market (of which most Southern states are a part of) allows people to go to OOS colleges at in-state rates if there is no university providing that particular disclipine within their home state.
Alabama residents can go to LSU for PETE for the same price as LA students.

Plenty of New Orleans kids go to Southern Miss. You literally can't not get accepted there.

If I recall correctly, the Mississippi Supreme Court ruled several years ago that all the colleges must have the same admission standards - which are abominably low, something like a 2.5 (maybe even 2.0) GPA and a 17 or 18 ACT. Someone with those credentials has no business going to college....unless they play football.

As a higher education administrator that works in Mississippi - you are incredibly wrong and full of it.
You can get into the Mississippi schools with no minimum ACT and GPA - Ive seen some 11s come though.
However, that train is probably going to come to a halt around 2018. The Ayers decision expires if the HBCUs do not get 20% white enrollment, and despite Jackson State's efforts of opening a campus in affluent Madison - it's not working.

I defer to your expertise. I was just recalling what I (thought) I knew from researching OM and MSU when I was a junior in high school, which was about a decade ago. My memory is not pristine.
